I suppose we got lucky with Tony Hibbert coming from the academy, which feels very weird to say. And I'd say that collectively, we probably only started appreciating the value of attacking fullbacks once Baines was a regular from 2009 onward. Following that you had one of the best fullback pairings in the league for a solid 4/5 years from 2012. So that's the context for the first 15 or so years when you say "this millennium".

Your point is still spot on though. The Patterson and Mykolenko double announcement is horrifying when you look back at it now. That was our chance to reset and we signed a pair of bums.

Even a Hibbert though, as much as I liked him, we didn’t look to replace him at all, ever. We got lucky, let’s be honest, that a 60K kid from Ireland turned into a brilliant fullback but it wasn’t like we’d bought loads of right backs every few seasons until we found the right one. We made no attempt to replace Coleman either even though he needed competition from about 2018 until we bought Patterson.

We are amongst the least patient group of fans out there. Dibling is written off after a hand full of games, Aznou was until he came on and ran about and Röhl getting pelters. Garner was written off initially as was iroegbunam - we need to allow players, teams and the leadership the time to show what they can do - very rarely happens overnight
Don't you dare come on here and post something so sensible. People won't thank you

As always in life it is the overly vocal minority.

That's exactly the same at all clubs, going down to non league or even sunday league, you're just not in an echo chamber for the other clubs where you're consuming the opinions of their fans on a daily basis so you don't notice.
Yeah you’re probably right with that but I don’t get the volume of vitriol towards players, recruitment team and owners that we see on here whenever we don’t manage to win a game - some people have a genuinely unhealthy relationship with the club

Giving players time is fine but there needs to be some positive signs and we need to at least see that the fight and effort are there.

We have signed some really bad players over the last decade. Players that we could see were going to struggle at this level. I'm not sure anyone can argue that we've not made a number of recruitment errors.

So I'm not sure how fans writing off bad players means they are impatient. I think a lot of the fan opinion on players is accurate sometimes.

Younger players deserve more time than experienced players coming in, but this is top level football. You have to adapt pretty quick.
Loads of dross through the door over the years which is why we shouldn’t be rushing out to sign anyone this window, despite clamour from fans. Yes, if we can get a fully scouted target in but it’s not the time to be rolling the dice

To be fair he did try and sign Kyle Walker/Naughton but that was late on so your overall point stands. We got lucky because Paul Cook, the Sligo manager was a big Everton fan and had links into the club.

I expect it goes alot deeper than the club, we're just any easy excuse to let it all out. That's why you see a big reduction of posters once things are going well ..
