It could be that we are in a situation similar to last summer. As the manager said at the time.

Given how tight certain league positions are this season especially from 6th to around 14th, it’s a shame if we don’t take advantage.
I take this point but who ever we manage to bring in this window has to be someone who improves the team for the next few seasons, not just for the next 18 games. I haven’t seen anyone move yet who would be gettable for us, that fits that bill

To be fair we don’t know who is available. My suggestion is there are two areas especially that desperately need sorting in the right back and centre forward areas, given this is a World Cup year there may be players wanting regular football to get into their national team.

This is what the people overseeing these things at the club are paid for.

Is there funds available for this month and if not is it a case of them not wanting to admit it publicly and instead be dismissive of the window itself?

"As we have pointed out, two-thirds of all new signings fail. We are delighted with the progress of our recruitment team given that we are, indeed, well on track to prove that point. We look forward to more opportunities to launch new kits in the third round of next season's FA Cup. The fact that such kits are worn only once a year adds to their exclusivity and, as we know, scarcity means higher prices in economic terms and more revenue for the club. With no cup competitions to play, this allows us to recruit a much smaller playing squad, providing further efficiencies. We, therefore, feel that aligning ourselves with a manager who gets us out of cups at the first opportunity is in the best interests of future sustainability. Therefore, we are delighted to extend the contracts of David Moyes and Castore and commend the synergies that both parties bring to our operational goals. Finally, to ensure we do not sell out of food at Hill Dickinson Stadium, we are delighted to announce a 25% price increase for Toffee donuts."

Looks like a Moyes chatbot.

I think Moyes stated in early December that money is available so my presumption is the recruitment team will only move if they see the right player at the right price. I’m sure plenty is going on behind the scenes to make that happen but I’m also comfortable if we don’t repeat the Tosun / Walcott window just to be seen to be spending.

No one wants a repeat of Tosun/Walcott.

It shouldn’t be a case of being apprehensive because of what has happened in the past, it should be learnt from and used to improve the team and the club.

This is part of the problem with Everton i think, a lot has gone wrong and it creates cynicism and anxiety of things being repeated so we get all these downplays that are labelled as being realistic.

After the summer the recruitment has some work to do because apart from a couple of players it’s been a disappointment, so they should learn from it.

But that's a false equivalence. It's not a choice between spending badly and not spending. It's about spending well. We should demand that they spend well. That's what they are paid for.

Evertonian PTSD is real but I’d wish people would recognise we have a whole new executive running things now - the only link to the past, and it’s a big one, is Moyes. We need to be more patient as a fan base

The fans have been patient tho? They turn up in their thousands every week and see constant disappointment with a few alright results. Imo we have one of the best away followings in the country and that is supporting a club that has regressed massively over the past thirty years.

With respect , we have heard calls for patience many times, the quotation book is back out on social media with the “Rome wasn’t built in a day”

If the club really got its act together the fans would respond massively, you know that. Look at how they turned out for disgraceful relegation slop.

There are opportunities here, and they should be taken advantage of.

There is something fundamentally wrong if the manager is stating a potential outcome at best over the next years is 8th/9th finishes in the league. The fans certainly don’t benefit from that.

I have no idea why though. We are not entitled to suddenly land in the euro spots / win a cup - you have to build towards it
Yes but this fan base has been through everything a fan base can see…and for 30 years its been mostly crap

So to see another season of no cup run, when we promised a new era at BM and to be served up the same old crap

Has people close to edge

That penalty on Saturday should have sealed Barry's fate here.

Surely there's someone somewhere that can come in here and get us a handful of goals.

Only Everton create these scenarios where there are no possible players good enough in any positions we need.

In this millenium we’ve bought one first choice right back who’s been successful. Seamus Coleman who cost £60k. It’s 2026.

The only permanent specialist right back signings in that time that we paid a fee for aside from Coleman: Patterson, Lars Jacobsen.

Rest have been academy kids, loans, centre backs moved across, or midfielders like Neville.

Just an absolutely shameful dereliction and we’re supposed to believe that once again there’s not a single right back out there we can buy in January.
