If I was a United fan , which fortunately I'm not, I'd be extremely worried about the future.

They have an uncompetitive, totally unbalanced squad which does not in any way allow for the way their new coach insists on playing.

They will find , like we did , that many of them can't be shifted because of the absurd salaries that they are being paid.

Unlike in previous seasons PSR and their own finances won't allow them to buy themselves out of the hole that they are in.

A couple more years out of the CL will exacerbate that.

Their ground is falling to pieces and with the Glazers continuing to funnel money out of the club it's hard to see how they will be able to finance a new stadium. This government with all their problems definitely won't be bailing Brexit Jim out.

Add in the fact that their fan base is divided and toxic and you have a recipie for failure.

Love it.

Ferguson was an immense manager - they are just reverting to mean now.

This is how Utd had been before he came.

Whilst I hope all of this is true I just want Everton to chart their own route back to the top.

If United are entering a fallow period, great. But it only makes a difference to us if we somehow don’t end up being even worse than they are.

Liverpool had 30 years not winning the league, Chelsea have fallen away after Abramovich, Arsenal had years not competing whilst they built their new stadium, United have been rubbish for ages, and in this period we have zero trophies because Everton were managed like an old theatre company with statler and Waldorf driving us into the ground.

Some Evertonians have been patient for decades whilst carrot after carrot have been dangled. We’ve taken our medicine over recent seasons now but there should be no excuse why we can’t return to competing for trophies. We’ll have the stadium revenue, PS&R is behind us, we have rich owners, we still have a massive fan base. The club need to get going in the next few seasons

Got it right is more about the future becuase still have all that sponsor deals and fans that bring in alot of money. But i feel alot of that was because of pst history think they will see a decline because not winning stuff. So will keep dropping, also problem is for them is other clubs will keep charging them high prices for players becuase being united. Is love to see them get relegated just because of the chaos it would create

I'm not sure at least in the longer term. But it depends on how you define success.

They won't be replicating Fergusons period in charge but the question is how low is their bar?

Since Ferguson left, how many trophies have they won? I'm not counting them but a Utd can I spoke to said it was "5 or 6". I'd love to be in a position where I wasn't exactly sure how many pots Everton won in little over a decade. Except I am sure and it's a resounding NONE.

They are all up in arms at the state of things but it's all relative. None of us would mind it.Not half.

I do think in general though the number of clubs capable of competing at the higher end, whilst not threatening to compete for the title, is increasing.

I think we have to muscle in on that group, this may be the last opportunity to do so.

I suppose its relative success, Utd have an income we can only dream off, they always had even in before Ferguson - theyd win the odd cup every few years.

But before Ferguson, they were always a bloated spendthrift led by the nose by the trend of the day, they've reverted to that now.

I guess the question is what we are seeing an anomaly or a mean - i think they are just returning to mean and we all have to accept Ferguson was exceptional.

In terms of comparisons to us, not sure there is an equitable argument to make - its not a like for like comparison in addition to our own badly managed woes, its economies of scale and what that enables - the odd FA Cup and League Cup - i think is a minimum for clubs of 500 mill + - absolute minimum.

We've had two chances to get back to the top table.

When Moshiri took over and started spending money like a drunken sailor and right now.

Be it luck or judgement the stars have aligned for us....new stadium, new owners , high under performing wage earners out of contract and ( to an extent) rehabilitated finances.

This is a wonderful opportunity. We cannot blow it. I fear that we won't get another chance if we do

Oh I agree there is no comparison to EFC but for the Mancs I really don't see a quick fix and early exit from this malaise

For someone who grew up in the 90s its beautiful to be witnessing it now

Starting this summer.

Let's see the colour of their ambition.

I heard Radcliff mention that next season they have 5 players that have been removed from the squad that they are still paying for. Thankfully TFG have got us steering full face this summer and hopefully we can put some daylight between ourselves and the bottom half of the league in terms of generating money again.

It's perfect for them that they can embrace delusional thinking to insulate themselves from the troubling reality present.

It's got all the ingredients for a disaster: not one, but two despised ownership groups, a squad full of aging and average players on huge wages and long contracts, creaking and outdated infrastructure, an enormous debt pile, no recent trophy success (league and champions league, at least), and agitated supporters.

Delicious.

I have a feeling that football is eating itself so seeing our stadium up and running with potential to extend is a relief.

It will be a game changer and I think we are underestimating how big of an impact it will have.

So I am happy we have adults running the club who have experience in football management
