This is a great read and when you look at the amount of choice, quality and variation Crystal Palace fans offered their supporters, then it makes the 3 we have come up with as amateurish.

This is what I don't understand... they say there is a need to make the crest simple, modern, recognisable, good digital reproduction but the tower in particular looks awful on the current one and pretty bad on the three options we were given. Palace has a ****ing Eagle as their crest and that's looks brilliant, instantly recognisable, modern and seriously clean, but we can't even get a tower right. Mind boggling.

This has never been in any doubt to me once they had the pretend survey and faux consultation.

To be fair, the survey has all been above board and everything the fans said was reflected in crest 1.

It just proves that the majority of Evertonians are a very conservative lot. There's a reason the badge has looked the same for most of the past 75 years.

And I like crest 1 anyway.

Wish this was the away kit now!

Tell you what, one thing I've realised with this whole badge thing is that it really doesn't matter.

The new badge is sh*te obviously. But when we score I don't give a sh*t. When we pulled Lukaku out of our arse on deadline day I didnt care a jot. When Fulham beat us nobody was blaming the badge.

There's about a million more important things than this.

There's some truth to that, but then again, if it didn't matter, 20000+ people wouldn't have signed a petition against it, there wouldn't have been a massive kick off, and this thread wouldn't exist.

So it does matter. Whether it should matter is a whole other story.

It matters to me. Dunno quite how to explain it. It's particularly baffling when there was no one complaining about the old one. The club decided to change it for a series of commercial reasons, most of which will not be met by next years crest. Looking at that pic of this years away with one of the new badges just hammers it home, you can hardly make the badge out. The club have waisted everybody's time and we will end up with a worse crest than when we started. So frustrating!

I think the one aspect it does meet is that nothing is outside the crest and thus won't be left out by the media.

That's what this has been all about from the start. That's why they made the decision originally to change the crest - because 'Everton' and to a lesser extent '1878' kept being left out. Sure, they'll throw in a load of guff about 'modernising it' but that's a red herring. The club wanted to protect their brand, and to do that they wanted to make sure the name 'Everton' was inside any new crest.

I think it's more mundane than that. The club want to keep strict control on a new logo for commercial purposes they dont appear to have been able to do with that the old badge. I dont know whether they ever patented the old one but I know they've had running battles with vendors over other merchandise issues and it wouldn't surprise me if this was a move to rectify lack of legal clarity over ownership of the old 'brand'. As you say, all the 'modernising' malarkey for 'global brand consumption' was horse manure...as the u-turns on this 'new-new' badge demonstrate.

Totally cool that mate.

For me it's gone on so long I've realised that other things are more important. To me at least.
