2025/26 Nathan Patterson

No doubt he'll declare himself unavailable for selection once the transfer window closes and take up his customary position on the treatment table, but fair play to the lad, he's filled a gap for us when we're down to the bare bones.

Literally. And no more than that.

This back four should not be messed with at the moment. Branthwaite should wait his turn to get his place back once fit, and it should be Tarkowski or O'Brien who gives way, not Patterson with O'Brien shifted to his hugely uninfluential right back berth. Patterson has been part of a steady defence recently, but above that the defensive partnership of Tarkowski and O'Brien is looking good. The main thing is that Jake looks a real solid centre half and it would be utterly ridiuclous to shift him away from that position now.

All of that said, as soon as Keane or Branthwaite is available we all know what's happening.

He’s been absolutely sound. There can be no doubt, that we’ve looked so much more solid with Patterson at right back, and O’Brien at centre half. Patterson has played his part in the clean sheets we’ve had in the recent games he’s started. Completely unnecessary to have square pegs in round holes, and move players out of position when we have an actual right back, fit and available.
