2024/25 Nathan Patterson

Played well I thought, going forward particularly. He’s got a good first touch, looks for give and goes and likes to put the ball in.

He likes to play out of defence, needs to learn when to play and when to boot it up the pitch. Can see him losing possession on dangerous areas in the prem. That’s the kind of thing that improves with games and experience though.

Main concerns for him are pace and injury proneness. Went off with a niggle in his calf, might be because he’s barely played and did a lot of running on a cold night but he needs to stay fit for a good long period now.

Didn’t see much wrong defensively, got stuck in - certainly didn’t do anything worse than Young who let their winger put 2 or 3 dangerous balls in the box when he came on.

Worth trying to develop I’d say.

100%. Can offer a fair bit going forward, needs a run of games IMO.

cant defend

To be fair he could be a better defender, maybe more game time/ experience will prove that, whether HD ever gets that chance only time will tell. But he played well last night and handled that winger much better than Young did, he done Young two or three times and Patterson was much better going forward than any fullback we have used this year. It was only Peterborough mind, but you can only play against who you are pitted against.

We look so much more of a threat when he plays.

Wing back system suits him, especially with big JOB on the cover but I'm sure there is, equally, a way of structuring a 4-3-3 off the ball that would allow him to go on the overlap with similar security

A good tactician would find a way of getting him into the side and minimising his defensive flaws

If we had an actual holding midfielder. Like the days we had Barry. When a full back went up, he would shift across to cover the space they left. For all the harrying that Gueye does, he isn’t a true DM that holds the space.
