It's only natural after going "all in" on his supposed talent from an early stage with Everton that you se McCarthy as his competitor and therefore seek to, foolishly, devalue his proven worth to the team.

No, it's a matter of opinion.

I for one, think McCarthy is the better player. Besic is doing brilliantly and long may it continue, competition breads quality.

Besic is technically better than McCarthy and you can easily see that after 5 games.

Besic and McCarthy would be ideal together in the middle. But we need that experience in the middle otherwise it'll be too erratic.

Only problem is how you'd fit them all together

Difference between McCarthy and Besic is, McCarthy is quite static, whereas Besic is always looking for the ball, dropping deep if need be to get us moving forward, Besic is a leader as well.
