Nothing up with me, you accused me.. rather stupidly of being pedantic when i wasn't. All i have said to you is to not dampen the mood. Like i said we'll have to see in a few months when the guy has settled in if he's going to be good or not.

Which is exactly what I've been saying.

I'm sorry for dampening the mood like, if anyone throws themselves off a bridge because I've said we should wait some time before judging Besic then I'll feel very guilty.

I must have been watching different games to everyone else because Gibson seems a bit overrated by people on here. Decent all round midfielder but should never be a starter for a team challenging the top 4. Barry played at much higher level in most games last year than Gibson ever did.

Yep seems you was watching a different game. Barry played with macca next to him. Gibson with felli. I know who I think had the easier job as a defensive midfielder. If Gibson gets his fitness back then he will get into the team and stay there in my opinion.

Don't take this the wrong way because I'm enjoying the debate but sometimes in life its fun to make estimations based on gut feelings on very little information. People who are highly paid in whatever business e.g. music executive, football scout, CEO, get rewarded for predicting how things are going to turn out based on very little information. Anyone can point to something that is successful based on performance and say it is successful but it's too late by then. It takes much more skill and bravery to look at something which is unproven and say it is going to be a success. It's easy to say Messi is the best player in the world now based on his record, any fool can do that. I great scout though could look at him at 15 or 16 and say he has all the tools to be the best player in the world.

I am a football scout, mate.

So based on what you've seen so far, what do you think Besic will do this season? Will he mainly be back-up to Barry and McCarthy? Will he replace Barry or McCarthy in our first choice starting eleven? Will he become our best player? Will be be the new Peter Reid?

I think he'll be back up to them until Barry gets knackered around Christmas/January when he'll step in as Gibson's injured. I think for the first three or four months he'll be behind Gibson and maybe even Osman in the pecking order but that'll change. It'll be one of them I think, all the fans want him played but Martinez will start Leon over him and we'll all go nuts. Can see him playing a lot of Europa League games and doing well, being a strong contender to start alongside McCarthy next season. Fan favourite for his attitude, surely.

Either that or he will become the greatest player to ever play football and change his name to Peter Reid by deed poll.

One or the other IMO, not sure.

He will be in rotation with Barry, McCarthy and Gibson but I think in the big games we'll play Barry, McCarthy and Besic together and load the midfield like we did against Porto in the 2nd half.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the season he's one of the first names on the team sheet.

McCarthy as it stands is an automatic starter. For me at least anyway. Barring a serious drop in form or an injury, he is one of the first names on the sheet. Barry was brought back as his partnership with McCarthy was incredibly effective in the system that we play.

I see Besic as Barry's eventual replacement obviously and we will use this season to bed him in. I can't see him starting 3 or 4 games on the bounce.
