2020/21 Muhamed Besic

Might be like Niasse and Martina last year. Or just no club came in with offers.

Seems like there is interest in both mate, Boro for Yannick and reported fair few clubs in for Besic, the rub will be % of wages. We are in the dregs of the market now and id suspect we will have to swallow a fairly high percentage of their wages to shift them at this stage, all the leverage with the EFL clubs.

An absolute cluster flip.

Next summer will be huge. Literally all the remaining deadwoods’ contracts will be expired. Save a lot of wages there.
I’d say by the summer of 2022 we will start to see a clear picture of the club moving forward. I doubt there will be much deadwood on high wages sitting in the stands or out on loan.

and I would imagine we won’t have many 21 to 23 yr olds still knocking around the under 23’s on nice contracts.

probably a squad of 19-ish high earning professionals. And a number of youngster backing up the squad.

A case of what might've been for Besic had he stayed fit. Won't forget how he bossed that Man City game and Yaya Toure in particular - just couldn't stay fit and had a horrid time with injuries.

Hope he finds a decent club and can get some games in.

Ain’t the problem of fitness obviously when our past 4/5 temp and perm managers decided not to select a player.

Cenk? That’s about it. But think he might go out on loan in January again.

56 appearances he 's made for us. Since then, he's made 52 appearances in the Championship, and Sheffield United saw fit to let him feature 13 times for them last season, during which he scored his only goal in English football in a 2-0 win vs Millwall in the FA Cup.

Now, I'm not expecting clubs to be falling over themselves to sign him, but you'd think somebody would be interested in taking him. Managers have seen fit to use him wherever he's been.

So why exactly is he proving difficult to shift?

That isn’t exactly an endorsement. 13 appearances, two being league starts, that’s pretty much saying we saw fit to use Christian Atsu in the season he was here on loan. He was never part of their team.

Yeah, but that was at Premier League level. The point I was making was that he's hardly viewed as a pariah, and he's clearly got some level of ability, whether that be as a squad player for a lower prem team or a place at a championship club.

Its only 10 weeks until the Jan window though, not long to sit on your hands, get paid, enjoy your Xmas and reassess, slap bang in the middle of a pandemic.

He and Bolaise might decide to take their chances and stay for that period for a desperate PL club to come in for them then.
Yes, fair argument. They could both do that.
At the same time they could agree to go out on loan until Jan, play well and then put themselves in the shop window for a better loan move in Jan.

245 mins in PL last season. He may do well in the Championship though as he had done with Boro.

...agree, I’d imagine he’d much prefer a loan to maintain form, fitness & profile. From the reports I read, there’s a lot of demand for him but his preference is to remain in this country.
I agree that this should be the priority. It should be this in normal times, but especially at the moment.

If you’re happy to sit around and do nothing for a season then you’re banking on their being:

1- a Financial stimulus package for the lower leagues
2- a vaccine in 2021 that can return life to normal
3- the Economy to bounce back completely and football clubs outside the prem to start Offering big contracts again.

All of the above could happen next year, but in my opinion it’s a big risk. Much better to get yourself out there and start playing.

Come on now, it was about money.

It's not always about money though. Of course it plays a part but like any other job you have to be happy with every aspect of it to go for it.

Somewhere else in the UK maybe is not so bad but players uprooting to another country is not as straightforward as some seem to suggest.

Allegedly he didn't do too badly at Sheffield United when he did get game time. Their fans seemed to be happy enough with him he just didn't get in the team enough. Makes sense really as they had a very good season so why break the team up? He wasn't terrible or anything though, probably didn't get enough time to be terrible...
