I don't know why football supporters, and honestly supporters in all sports, expect players to walk away from the money on their contract to make less money elsewhere. I know it happens sometimes where the guy would rather play and he takes a small cut to do that. But I don't get holding it against Besic or Bale or whoever that they want to earn all of the money that the contract says they can earn.

I guarantee most of you wouldn't walk away from a contract in your line of work that paid you a guaranteed, high end wage for a certain number of years just because the company stopped giving you work. Most everyone would ride it out, make their money, and see what they could get once the deal is over. Footballers are no different.
Besic has 1 year left on say 40k a week at Everton.

He WILL be able to join a club willing to pay him 25k a week bare minimum (and Everton would probably even pay the rest!), on a 3 year contract. Knowing he is OOC end of the season, he could join a club now and no doubt, if he works hard, they'd offer him a proper deal once he's a free agent. Heck, he could even score a decent signing-on fee as most bosman transfers do.

The longer he waits, the older he gets and the fewer clubs will be willing to offer him such a long contract.

He just needs to absolutely koff.

If he leaves the club on a permanent we will not be covering his wages. He will make what the next club pays him. 25k might happen but that is still almost three quarters of a million per year less than he currently makes. There is no reason for him to do that. Waste the year on the bench if you have to but no shot he gives up that much.

Which means the options are either find a club to take him at his currently salary or loan him. I just don't see him leaving on a permanent unless he decides he needs to for his career. But I can't get mad at a guy for turning down that much of a pay cut.

Not sure if I made a typo, I mean Everton will top up his wages if he joins somebody on loan. After that, his contract with us is up and he needs to find a new club. If he is prepared to work hard his loan club will offer him a longer deal.

No idea whatsoever why him and the other wasters are sticking around. I hope their contracts expire and nobody touches them.

I thought you meant leave on a permanent at first

Yikes. His performance vs Man City was very, VERY good, but his only one of note. I remember him playing well at home to West Brom and QPR, but a little more than that is required at Everton from me.
Well yeah, I thought it was pretty obvious that I was saying he didn’t do it regularly. The point was that he had the ability to have very good games, which not all players do. You agree it seems. So not sure where the yikes comes in to be honest.

Because you said his good games were as good as anything you’ve seen from an Everton midfielder. 2/3 were against QPR and West Brom at home.

As all the other Everton players I've seen were playing against the same standard of opposition, I'm not sure what other metric I'm supposed to use? I'm only in my early 30s, I'm not comparing him to Alan Ball or anything, and I've never seen us playing against Europe's best. The best individual Everton midfield performances I've seen off the top of my head would be Rooney against Bolton when he was 16/17, Arteta in a FA Cup game against Villa, Fellaini against City once, and Besic against City. My point was that he had the ability to play at that level, no matter how frequently or who against. Cleverley, Heitinga, Neville, Castillo and the like didn't.

Clubs regularly cover the difference if a player is taking a pay cut to move. It's usually covered in the 'loyalty bonus' you hear talked about, which prevents players from asking for a transfer.

I remember him getting the ball on the halfway line with his back to goal in that game, four Bolton players closed him and he still got away with the ball.

There must be someone that would want Besic. He’s a good age, transfer fee wouldn’t be huge, wages aren’t ridiculous and he’s proven his fitness over a couple of seasons now. Think he’d be a great signing for loads of clubs in the championship at least.
