Moyes Watch @ Real Sociedad

Of course he got near it again when we came 5th and pretending Moyes had money to spend is just plain baffling Ashton.
do yakubu/johnson/jagielka/lescott/heitinga/billi/arteta/piennar/Howard not count then? Over a few years he did get money to spend into the team and didn't get any further than that. Fairs fair I'm not speculating here, his track record proved he couldn't go further than he did.

In all fairness he did try and he did have time to do it. Even in the cup he couldn't actually do it compared to our current manager, getting beat along the way.

All clubs buy players, by that logic Tranmere should be pushing for the Champions league.

14.1m NET over 11 years.

He never had real money to spend, Fellaini was our record signing at 15m until Sky injected us with serious dosh and THAT signing even helped us break our record again with Rom.

he formed his team though for that net argument. He wasn't just living on scraps, he was signing the players he wanted to and selling ones he didn't. Even when he sold lescott he replaced with 3 decent players, one sadly couldn't adapt to the league.

At the end of the day before out current one, moyes' best 11 were our best team since the 80's and it couldn't get past 5th in the league.

fellaini was entirely funded by sales, and at least third choice perhaps more at that.

I never said they were bad did I?
you compared signing players with tranmere?!

he signed good players and built a good team and still failed at going the extra step. that's really the top and bottom of moyes' time here.

compare that to martinez and at least he can show how money increased the gap for champions league football when we dared to go the next level.

He wasnt allowed to form his side, he was forced to make do, meanwhile every other team in the league were spending more money than us window after window, im not denying he struggled to reach the very top and win something, but you act like he didnt go 5 windows without spending a single penny on a player.

Compare what to Martinez? His highest league finish is 5th, Moyes was 4th, 1 Cup Final and 3 Cup Semi-Finals.

To which you will reply something about 11 years compared to 2 and a bit, hence comparing Moyes and Martinez is a very flawed thing.

he did do that and that came after he spent, before that he did form a team, even when selling players. I mean he swapped one defender for 2 and a creative player! by the time he had no money, as a manager he had stagnated and pretty much running the contract down.

Moyes finished 4th in a freak season that won't happen again. After that he didn't come close. compare that to martinez who got the points we needed, but the team who had went out and bought a world class player that season increased the gap, I.e money being the final word.

and moyes did get to semis and a final and capsized each and every time. We were winning the final and did nothing but defend, we didn't attack in the league cup semi, we lost after nit attacking Liverpool after we scored, rather than try to win the game outright and the only semi we did win, had united not even full strength out of choice, and that was a penalty shootout, not a outright win

The comparison was made because you said he was allowed to buy players. All clubs buy players seemed a simple analogy. It's obvious that the teams who buy the better players finish higher up the league as a rule. Moyes bought good players and we did well, if he'd have had more money he would no doubt have bought better players and we coukd have done better.

I've got no idea what your last paragraph is saying to be honest.

to go back to the original point mate, moyes added fellaini and Juan mata to a title winning team and......finished 5th. so better players still end up with the same result, and United didn't beat arsenal city Chelsea Liverpool or Everton away that season, just like here.

my last paragraph is basically we got a champions league qualifying season in terms of points. Every year before that we finish 4th, and when it came down to it, we were beaten by a team who had just added a world class player in ozil into their team and got a record number of points to finish 4th! sometimes mate you just have to say fair enough to things. close to 80 points I expect a title challenge season for the best part, not 4th in the league!
