Moyes Watch @ Real Sociedad

to go back to the original point mate, moyes added fellaini and Juan mata to a title winning team and......finished 5th. so better players still end up with the same result, and United didn't beat arsenal city Chelsea Liverpool or Everton away that season, just like here.

my last paragraph is basically we got a champions league qualifying season in terms of points. Every year before that we finish 4th, and when it came down to it, we were beaten by a team who had just added a world class player in ozil into their team and got a record number of points to finish 4th! sometimes mate you just have to say fair enough to things. close to 80 points I expect a title challenge season for the best part, not 4th in the league!

Champions have fallen away like that before, it's not new or surprising especially given the seismic change that team went through. Moyes only added Fellaini in the summer who was injured a fair bit and ridiculed in the media when he was fit. He clearly wanted other players and Utds obvious incompetence prevented him getting his main targets. When Mata turned up in January Moyes had on foot on the gallows steps even though he was still doing well in the champions league, one player alone was never going to rescue him that season.

The fact Martinez got us 72 points is neither here nor there when discussing Moyes and his relative success with Everton. Over the last 2-3 seasons the finances being brought into football mean no comparison can be truly accurate as one was clearly hamstrung by the clubs finances and another has benefited immensely massively.

agree to disagree then mate. I'm not saying he wasn't a good manager for us, just don't think in hindsight that he would have ever broken that barrier.

Did a good job for us. Anybody saying otherwise is on crack. Lets put a Moyes best squad together, and see how much it cost....

Martyn
Coleman Jags Lescott Baines
Mirallas Arteta Felli Pienaar
Cahill
Yakubu

Howard, Stones, Oviedo, Distin, Johnson, Gibson, Saha.

Pretty sure he made a profit on all that too.

An all Martinez team*

Robles
Browning Stones Funes Mori Galloway
McCarthy Barry
Deulofeu Barkley Kone
Lukaku

.....technically better than the Moyes team, certainly more exciting on its day, perhaps Moyes team with greater character.

*bought or properly blooded.

I put Stones on the bench because even though he might be the greatest signing ever (after 60k Seamus) he never really did it under Moyes. I'm reluctant to include Barkley, as he was just there.

Roberto deserves credit for blooding them and giving them the platform to become top players.

Just to clarify mate. I was a Moyes fan. I didn't even want Martinez. However, he's won me over. Would I swap him for ginge right now? No chance.....

I'd argue a team consisting of Coleman, Baines, Pienaar, Mirallas, Arteta and Cahill is pretty exciting.

And that's without Yakubu's heart melting smile.

Coleman in his best form brought something different to Moyes' set up. The attacking intent of the front four above though wouldn't have been contemplated by Moyes....and bear in mind Martinez also incorporates Coleman, and soon Baines again.

The commitment to attack under Martinez is over and above that of any Moyes outfit, whether that leads to it being more easily countered into a stalemate by opponents is another matter.

I'm no fan of either, both of them being different flavours of bang average but@Titus Bramble's Moyes team would beat them more often than not.
