Moyes: Threadbare squad with only loans to come...if possible

I remember a couple of people saying that the [Poor language removed] hit the fan in early summer when Moyes gave Bill a transfer list amounting to £40m. Obviously Bill was less than impressed with his manager's desires and bluntly told him there was no chance, giving him a much less impressive figure to play with. The fact that we tried to sign Moutinko before the Johnson sale kinda looks like that figure must have been £15m or so. Add to that the Johnson money, and we are probably looking at nearer the £25m mark.

I cant say I am shocked about no cash to be honest with all the cash owed out on transfers already done it must eat into the kitty for new signings.until we get a chairman who has cash we are going to carry on like this I am not (this time) having a go at Kenwright if the guy has not got the funds he cant spend it.

Hes just kidding us, watch us spend 10-15m in January, Sporting are out the CL now? So expect The Mout to be seen at the Adelphi, its gonna be a LONG January.

Sorry but for me, he's run out of excuses.

I'm one of Moyes' biggest backers as you all know but it's all starting to get a bit old.

Frankly, I don't want to hear it.

If he's not willing to play players like Castillo and VDM, or bench players who are woefully out of form like Lescott or maybe even Yak in favor of Baines or Anichebe/Saha, then I don't want to hear it.

I don't want to hear it anymore.

You made your bed, you sleep in it. Use the players you have.

ALL the players you have.

this statement sends an awful message to the players , fans ,any potential investers or future potential transfer targets.

it says money is tight and that we will have to settle for loans and freebies....ok we are a pauper brick-a-brac side now.

but at the same time he says the first 11 is poor (he wouldnt play them if he had a better alternative), he would sell if the squad was bigger , and that his backup players are also so poor that they are not worth playing.

a kick in the teeth for the whole squad ?

now if his loans and freebies were not good enough in the summer to be considered for the starting 11 in a struggling side, then whats the difference gonna be with the loans and freebies in january ?

come on moyes , atleast try to spin it a bit to get moral going and have an element of positivity !!!!

we know money is tight , thats why we want kenwright to sell up .
we know the squad isnt as good as other sides , but its your bloody squad none the less and is better than most.

you cant tell me we are playing crap football becouse of poor finances.

you cant tell me we lost to a poor wigan side by not having players worth 10 million each the bench !

get a bloody grip man and get the best out of what you have before moaning about what you havent got.

We're just so mediocre and lifeless. Nothing about the club is exciting at the moment. David Moyes's approach to everything is about as exciting as a piece of toast.

An alternative view:

In business it pays as a buyer to be a reluctant buyer, it also pays not to disclose how much you have for purchases. Most people accept that Moyes is a canny operator in the transfer market, so perhaps we need to give him the benefit of doubt.

A more realistic view:

I believe that our financial position is deteriorating rapidly, revenues are down, the cost of borrowing has risen (despite interest rate cuts), there's no chance of an investor coming along anytime soon, and DK gets more expensive by the day, and will in all likelihood not materialise.

It is not un-reasonable to suggest we may have to sell players rather than buy in the January transfer window.

I said in another thread that we have the weakest financial position in the Premiership - things may get an awful lot worse in the months to come :(

What are you basing that on mate, i thought our deby was reltively low to a few others in the leauge!

Debt is fine as long as you have the means to pay the interest and capital repayment costs - look at Man United, heavily indebted but highly profitable so no problem servicing the debt.

We're in a different position. We've got debt because we've mortgaged everything of value to fund player acquisitions and most importantly to fund year on year losses in the boom years.

As I stated earlier, our revenues are falling (failure on the pitch = fewer games = less revenue, plus falling attendances = less revenue)

We've nothing left to mortgage to meet our losses, we're likely to lose more this year than last.

We're beholden to the bank's goodwill in financing our position. Given what's happening in the banking world we can't assume that they'll continue to support us.

DK is costing us money now, and the cost is increasing if it goes ahead. Coupled with no investor interest, thats a very unhealthy scenario.

I don't wish to be unduly negative, I'm looking at the situation from a cold-hearted business perspective, not my usual life-long blue- bloodiness.
