Moyes 'The ungrateful irritant'

I wouldn't boo him personally because I appreciate everything he did for us. He changed everything and brought us back to credibility on the pitch, changed a lot off it too. Nor tho would I cheer him because I think he's acted pretty poorly since he left.

Towards the end I think rightly or wrongly moyes felt he'd taken us as far as he could without bigger investment. He also was Ultra defensive against the fans wanting/expecting more. Think moyes was too honest in his assessment at times but he wanted expectation low bobby on the other hand is all fresh and new in his first big job and is aiming for the top bless him. Different personality's but hey...

I just feel lucky really that after a terrible period we got moyes at the right time and he was great for us. Secondly with him leaving we'v got Roberto at exactly the right time and so far so very good!

The annoying issue is that after all the respect we have him in the last home game, he been a right horrible get to us, just cos he did a very good job for us, doesn't mean he can make sly comments about our club, make a pathetic double bid for our two best players, undermine our manager and players with comments about finally take a winning team to anfield.

It was obvious during the last few years of his time at Everton that we were divided in our support for Moyes, but some of the hate that I'm seeing here is hard to understand.

Overall, I supported him, but there were times when I turned against him. Usually when he sent us out against the Sky big
four or five to save the game instead of going for it. I wonder how many points that cost us.

I think there have been times since he left when he could have chosen his words better, but I don't believe that he has ever meant to be dismissive of Everton or tried to depict us as a stepping stone. And I think some of you have been too ready to take his comments out of context. That's just my opinion, of course.

He's been heavily criticised for coming back for Baines and Fellaini, but do you not see that Roberto Martinez, who has been a
brilliant success here and who we are all delighted with has stripped his old club of four players, two of which were in their main
half dozen. What's the difference?

Let's drop this and move on. Three points at the theatre of dreamers would be a good start.

The only thing thats going to be dropped is Moyes.

Drop kicked from the top balcony.

Read Fergies bio. All you need to know is in there. Plus the condescension towards Martinez.

Have to disagree with your post here. Moyes has been a disgrace since he's left, and I was a big Moyes fan (I still appreciate what he did for us). He's been so disrespectful towards the whole club it's untrue. For a start, people have to appreciate that it's a bitter pill to swallow for any fan when someone moves on to what they believe is a bigger/better club. And being truthful, that's what he did. We knew the circumstances with his move didn't seem as honest as he made out, but we got behind him in the West Ham game and gave him the send off he deserved. How did he repay us? He's tried to s hit all over us since the day he left. The difference in class between Moyes and Martinez since everything has gone on is staggering.

Did you see his comments about when he went round to "Sir Alex's" when he was out with his wife and he was embarrassed that he was wearing a pair of jeans  He apparently got offered the job and went running back to his wife to announce "I'm the Manchester United manager". It's as if the 11 years at Everton meant absolutely nothing to him. To me that was one of his most disrespectful comments about us. Obviously I fully expect him to be delighted at the offer but the way he comes across with those comments make me cringe. And it's exactly the inferior attitude he showed when he sent us out on the pitch against the top teams away. Like we weren't worthy.

Following on from that, he's handled the transfers all wrong, belittled our club about how he would never have stood in their way, disrespected Martinez saying "only" he David Moyes knows how Everton work, and Martinez doesn't. The list goes on. To be fair, this week I think he's tried to be complimentary about us but it's not come across how he wanted and our fans are being a little bit too sensitive over these ones but everything else has been a complete disgrace. You mention Martinez going back to Wigan. Look at how he handled those situations - far better than Moyes did with us.

Hmmm, think you think far too much into it all mate tbh. Your an evertonian so I suppose that's inevitable. Moyes is just a football manager wanting to get to the very top. In England man utd is the very top! Would there ever have been a nice way to leave? To come back in for players? To make comments about your old and new club keeping everyone happy? I think prob not tbh.

For me the bad thing moyes did was how he handled the baines/Fellaini saga and the comments made about how he'd of let them move on. Mainly because that's was a lie! Moyes NEVER would of let them move on unless the money was right. The money was no where near right! But again who was in charge of that? The new director at utd or the new manager?

He gave his all for Everton till he left. Now he gives his all for utd even if it means annoying some evertonians...it's hardly supprising really.

Moyes is an utter disgrace with his comments, he's given RM no praise whatsoever claiming he signed all the players.

Well Lukaku, Barry, Deulofeu and McCarthy were awfully quiet last season cause i don't remember them doing a thing in a blue shirt

...I really liked Moyes the manager and wanted him to stay as I never thought anybody would be able to improve our status without investment. I am changing that view and have a much more positive outlook with RM in charge. Like others, I appreciate the job Moyes did and will never forget the mess we were in when he came. Saying all of that, he's not done himself any favours with us since he left. Nobody is bitter about him taking the biggest club job in the game, but in endearing himself to his new fans he's alienated our folk with comments about now managing a club who can go to top clubs with the aim of winning and derisory bids for our players. Its also clear from SAFs book that he was well aware the United job was coming his way for some time yet was always in a state of denial.

Moyes latest comments are designed to play down the improvements that Martinez has made since he arrived & remind everyone that Everton's current success is purely down to him - as those players could play without a manager....

Egotistical, self absorbed & factually incorrect about sums it up. I've lost all respect for the man since he departed & I hope Roberto hands him his arse on a plate tonight, as Moyes deserves a massive does of humility......

It's all mind games anyway. Don't think it'll work. If they beat us it's because they've got about 600,000,000,000m more pounds than us in the bank and have heavily invested in their squad over 20 years. Nothing else.

Posted this on another forum in response to a Manc lad I know asking why the worm had turned as far as our opinion of Moyes is concerned. Thought it might be worth posting it here in the hope of an Amen or two.

I loved Moyes. Loved him. For younger fans it's easy to forget just how bad the pre-Moyes era was. From about 1993 to the day that Moyes took over (with the exception of a couple of Joe Royle years in the middle of it), being an Evertonian was a largely crap experience. We had been winning the league less than a decade beforehand and yet we were consistently in the relegation mix every season. Bad management at board level and a succession of poor managers and laughably bad players for a decade made being an Everton fan a chuffing chore.

Then one day, Moyes walks into a press conference, throws in an accidental soundbite, wins a few games and things suddenly seem optimistic. The following season he finishes 7th, Rooney emerges and we all see it's the real deal. A relegation fight the following season and Rooney leaving after it brought us all back to earth but on the back of that he manages to finish 4th the following season. There's still a few bumps along the way after that, but essentially we stabilised as a club from then on. Moyes' signings were generally good, we had a few cup runs, some big results (at home) against the bigger clubs and we were a consistent top 8 side. He helped me feel proud about being an Everton fan again because, as previously mentioned, my formative years were a chuffing nightmare as far as the blues were concerned. He did all this with an air of dignity and integrity. Phil McNulty described David Moyes as the only Everton manager who had never lied to him. When he got the United job I was gutted. I was slightly surprised but devastated all the same. I didn't, however, feel any ill will because he was leaving. He'd have been mad to turn that job down I understood why he was leaving. On the appointment of Martinez, I thought he was the best candidate of a bunch of very average names. I thought the quality of the football might improve, but results might suffer in at least the short term. Anyway, I digress...

What has happened since he took the United job has been little short of a disgrace. He has a new club to manage now, of course, but there is no need to do that whilst disrespecting your old one.

Firstly - he maintains he found out about the United job 4 weeks before the end of the season. I believe SAF has already debunked this in his new book? I don't see the need to continue with the lie. I'd even understand if he'd admit he was tapped up well beforehand, I would still understand him taking the job.

Secondly - the Baines/Fellaini bids. Yes, the initial bid was a complete pisstake. Nobody knows whether Moyes had anything to do with the valuation of the bid since the trendy thing appears to be to put the blame at Woodward's door, but suffice to say that if Moyes enjoys the same level of control at United as he did at Everton, he most certainly had some input into it. His subsequent comments about the failed Herrera bid and how he didn't feel the player was worth the buyout clause would seem to support the theory that he has some involvement here. It's not the bid itself which most peed me off though, it was his comments about it...

Asked if he had sympathy for Martinez, Moyes said: ‘I definitely do. But I also know that if I was the Everton manager and Sir Alex had come asking for Baines and Fellaini, I would have found it very difficult to keep them. I always felt the right thing to do was what was right for the players. All we can do is our job here. Roberto is in a new job and I am sure he will get to understand how Everton work. I know exactly how Everton work. I signed every player at Everton."

The hypocrisy of the statement is just unbelievable. Moyes' comments when Man City were chasing Lescott would show this to be utter lies. He was outraged at Man City's pursuit of Lescott and had a public war of words with Mark Hughes about how he was the one who would decide whether Lescott went or not. On the flip side, even if this was bravado if Moyes was being honest and he would indeed have bent over if SAF had come calling for Baines and Fellaini then I'd be annoyed anyway.

Thirdly - his attempts to label us as "plucky little Everton" since he left. "You want to get out of O*d T******d alive, that used to be our saying, you know." His comments about how he felt taking on the "bigger clubs" was like taking a knife to a gunfight. Yes, United is a bigger club and a bigger job, but there's ways of saying things.

Finally - His recent comments, suggesting that he should be taking the credit for Everton's good start...

"Everton fans see a direction that their team is going in but they need to remember I signed a lot of them"

"But to be fair to him Roberto is doing a really good job keeping things going at Everton"

"I told Roberto that I left such an organised team behind that they could play without a manager and still win"

If continuing success is so easy, then perhaps Moyes could explain why he took over the Champions and currently finds himself in 8th place?

In summary, he's thrown away the respect I and most Evertonians had for him. I always used to have a soft spot, in a way, for United. Perhaps it was an anti-Liverpool solidarity thing or something. Dunno, but whilst Moyes is there it's completely gone. I wish nothing but failure for him.

Spot on!! Particularly the last bit, " whilst Moyes is there it's completely gone. I wish nothing but failure for him". Personally I just hope they give him the time to ruin them for a long time to come!

I find one part of the argument quite hypocritical for the fans who think we are taking it too personal with Moyes:-

"I appreciate Moyes for everything he's done for us, don't understand this bitterness, but it's a business, he's the manager of Man United now, worry about Everton blah blah"

Apply the same argument to their "overly sentimental defence" of a manger who picked up the best part of £30m in wages off us...

The way I see it is Moyes fulfilled a purpose for the first 5 years or so and then dined out on the "look at me, i'm managing a low budget team - even if you look at the first 11 and think they could beat anyone - i'm gonna tell ya that its like taking pen knives to gun fights."

The man reminds me of someone who has gone into football management with no footballing background but read a Tony Robbins "you can do anything" self improvement manual.

He started believing he was the finished product before many realised he had so much to learn... He's done a cracking job of appearing to be far better than he really is.

Well I am glad he has gone whatever the result tonight as he was stale won nothing boring negative football 10 out of his 11 years - In RM we trust!
