Moyes: No EFC contract talks until after end of January

I think people are putting to much personal opinion/taste into it. Moyes is in a perfect place to orchestrate a pay raise as well as transfer funds. He's managed the team to a top 5 position which might well have been better from looking at the way we played the first 10 games or so. We're a third of the season done and people are moaning about dropping points while lying in 5th.

He's got a contract winding down in a season where he's, for the first time in 8 years (when we got CL football), got us in a pretty decent position by november. Now you can say what you want about coming fixtures, true test and going into the christmas fixtures but you can't really slate the football we've played up until Norwich (barring maybe West Brom).

If he gets backing in the window he could solidate our claim for a top 4, which should clearly land him a higher salary as well. I'm all for him playing this card, hopefully it puts some pressure on the board. If it doesn't he can see the contract out 'til may and if no one comes in then he stays, probably on a lesser improvement on his contract than he'd get if we got into a CL spot.
Should be a win/win for both sides of the Moyes bandwagon.

We won't spend in January without selling Fellaini or Baines.

Moyes will sign a new contract in May and continue in same manner as last 10 years.

I would rather finish 10th and win something...
We will win nothing with him as manager, but never get relagated, and thats fine for some..
Royle never lost to Liverpool and won the FA Cup... Moyes has a much better team than Joe did, and we will finish this season potless... again..
Fellaini, Baines, Jelavic & Moyes all gone.. ( Bookmark it ! )

Would you though? I agree with what you are saying, but I remember on this board last year lots of people saying that they would rather us lose and finish mid table playing good fotball than winning playing negative long ball.

We are playing fantastic football, are 5th and people still moan when we draw, so it's not as straight forward as that

I would love us to win something and Moyes and the team have bottled the big games when we had a chance, but finishing mid table most years would be bloody boring for the majority of the season!

Great post, my thoughts exactly.

He's got Bill by the sack here & he's going to extract every last ounce of leverage his current position gives him.

My respect for Moyes would rise 10-fold if he actually did put pressure on the board, and if he actually was prepared to walk away if the board failed to deliver.

But the fact that this is likely to be the same old bull**** rhetoric that is followed by a pay rise and the signing of a four year contract makes me wish that he would stop patronising us with his low-expectation, new age traveler, hippy bull****, and just feck off!

If he'd have come out & said that negotiations were going well & he hoped it'd be tied up soon, you'd no doubt be accusing him of not using his contract expiry as a lever on the board & this showing him as being weak & lacking in ambition.

He has come out & stated his postion that he's waiting to see the boards plans & yet you're still having a pop at him, as your agenda has witnessed the future it seems.

He can't win with some Blues, which is myopic imo.

How many times have we read this stuff from Moyes? Nothing to see here. He'll sign an extended contract for another million a year on top of what he's getting right now and he'll settle down to selling players again.

Him and the other feller are a double act taking the piss. We all know it.

In various papers tomorrow, direct quotes:

Well, there we go. Gauntlet basically laid down for Kenwright and the board.

Back this man financially in the January. Don't sell anyone. Make some funds available so he can make signings. And if all of that happens, and we're 'making good progress', his comments would suggest he'll stay and sign a new deal.

Don't do any/all of the above, and well, he'll probably be on his way in May.

January is going to be a massive month, possibly defining the next few years for the club.

said the same thing last time round 4 years ago, when we were in talks for a new stadium and even then he took months to sign it.

this is basically a plea to the board not to sell any of the players, he knows full well theres not going to be any money available and that the squad is too thin to get 4th.
also gives him the perfect reason to leave in the summer as he knows the media will put the spin of "great manager wasnt given any money to spend and thats why they never won anything" taking the pressure off him and putting it on kenright.

this is actually a clever move by moyes whether he actually has any intention of singing a new contract no one knows, but almost guarantees fellaini or baines wont be sold in january.

this.
Moyes is holding the cards. Now the board can't push Fellaini or Baines sell
