Moyes: No EFC contract talks until after end of January

Moyes has proved himself in the realm of no budget-avoid relegation. What he hasn't proved (and cannot do so here) is open checkbook-trophies. There's no doubt that he's played a big part in keeping us up, but this team is one of the best we've had for years, yet we have 8 points from the last 7 games. Yes, injuries play a large part in those results but, without the depth to prove his gameplan, I have my doubts.

I'm fully aware that there are certain people who don't like Moyes.

But things are going to come to a head sooner rather than later.

Do we really need Moyes to go elsewhere and win stuff to prove that we had a very good manager in place, or can't people accept that right now, after he's had nearly 11 years in the job? Yeah, he's won NOTHING. Who else could have won something during that time for us, under the restrictions that Moyes has worked under? He's also had one of the lowest net spends in the Premier League during that time, and has had to sell one of his better players on no less than 3 occasions (Rooney, Lescott, Arteta), and that's before you consider selling the likes of Johnson and Rodwell, who in an ideal world he'd probably have kept.

Moyes is far from without faults. For many years he has been negative, safety first, and his use of substitutions and tactical awareness have been debatable on many occasions. However, the root cause of most of that has been him cutting his cloth accordingly, due to the club's financial position. He has managed a certain way out of necessity rather than out of choice. We've seen this season, when he has finally had a bit of leeway to do to some transfer business and bring players in to build a side, that we are playing our best football in years (well, up to a few weeks ago anyway!) and as a result, we have been up near the top. Cliche #1: Imagine what Moyes could do with money! Therefore, it's clearly the board that needs to pull their finger out.

Excellent post mate.

"He's won nothing" will always get thrown at him by people who ain't moyes fans. It's a easy brush to beat him with. It doesn't matter that with our investment ect we have no given right to have won anything in his era. If things had been different and we had luckily won the FA cup final against Chelsea would these people claim moyes is great? No there'd be something else to beat him with.

Everyone's entitled to there opinion of course. I think moyes has been great for us. And btw we'v been great for him! No manager is perfect and he frustrates me at times but given the circumstances he's had to work under I couldn't really ask for more than he's done. We were relagation battlers year after year. We bearly been out of the top 6/7 since in an era when our rivals spend millions opon millions year in year out.

His subs are questioned, being able to change a game questioned but he's never had a squad with class on the bench to come on and actually change games like city utd do ect..it must be frustrating for him too. The restrictions he's managing us under certainly out ways his flaws that he gets accused of.

Would he win things else where with funds and top class squads? Of course he would and it would be horrible to see whilst we'd prob get stuck with the latest "top man" coyle/lambert ect..

Glad he's pushing the board. As said this is an important time for us. The players need to see ambition or they will be off.. Mirallas Baines fellaini(prob too late) jelavic will all want to play in a team capable of challanging and boy are we close to a quality team just need a bit more.

If we get it we will have moyes to thank. I'm a realist if they show that nothing's gonna change and he can't push this team further on can u blame him for moving on?

Am sure last time he signed a new contract he was promised one promised one big money signing a season I.e. around the felliani mark. Could be wrong but am sure I read it just after he signed his current contract. Anyone else remeber anything like that?

Yeah I remember... It wasn't a fellaini type signing tho. He was guaranteed 1 proper money signing per season. And then he would build the rest up from low/free/loan type deals. What he basically got was something stupid like NO signings for a few years.
I'm sure he's wised up to there BS.

You never know given what's going on we might actually make some movements in jan.

He did exactly the same last time it came to signing a new contract.

He'll end up signing, Bill will pay him very well and they'll both continue to look after each other.

Or is this a case of 'I want £85k p/w this time' I hope he is putting pressure on the board but they all seem too cosy and I've heard this before a lot of times.

he will not go anywere, he isnt high profile enough for the likes of united /city or chelsea then you have big clubs he could go to newcastle/ villa both with managers going no were, he is on big wage,s no chance of getting sacked and expectations are to stay top half of the prem nothing more, he will be frustrated not to be able to go to the next step up like the rest of us, but job security and good wages will see him stay, he will sell a few and rebuild with a nice fat wage rise, its how much of that money he will get that he is hanging back for, if it as normal goes towards a dept that never goes down he just might jump ship.

Just a thought, when he says he's holding out for the board to step up and match his expectations etc, does he mean for the team, or for himself? He's regularly talking about the club as David Moyes FC these days.

my personal opinion is i would like to see him go. some of our football is good but alot of the time we have zero movement off the ball. i think a new manager with a new approach would freshen up our style.

I know this will be a big gamble that bill wont fcuk it up and bring in someone like Mcleish who has the same philosophy on football as moyes, but there are plenty of young managers out there who push for good attacking football.

Yes i have seen us play this year, i have also noticed the hoof making a return in the last few games.

Agreed apart from McLeish. I'd go foreign with foreign couching staff.

Our football in the last few games is worse than the start of last season.

I don't think big clubs will come for moyes whilst he's managing us. Believe it or not our frailties reflect on him. Unemployed he would be seriously hunted more I'm sure.

As for the cash... Bill's no genius if moyes said I want 85k and ill sign he'd give it him. I certainly don't think it's down to the cash moyes wants. And let's be honest moyes could get big money at a lot of other clubs if it was just about lining his own pockets.
