Verlander outpitched Snell and Springer homered for 3rd consecutive Opening Day as the Astros continued to be undefeated as an organization on Opening Day since Bud Selig (spit) forced our move to the AL with a 5-1 win over Tampa.

Reigning Cy Young winner Snell (JV got robbed) didn't once allow more than 2 earned runs in any start at home last year but he got tagged for all 5 by Houston.

Altuve and Brantley also went yard for the Astros.
Rays smashing it since the opening day.

I'm over in LA in the summer so planning the catch a couple of Dodgers games and possibly an Angels (though don't think the dates work as well for that).

Rays are a darn good squad. Pitching lights out so far and fundamentally sound. Hope they can keep sticking it to the Yanks and Red Sox.

Our pitching as been on par with last year's historic squad. No way anyone suspects this offense would go 4-40 with runners in scoring position thru 6 games and be at the bottom of the league in runs scored. It'll turn tho. Houston's too good, too talented to stay in a slump long.

Jacob deGrom hitting homer for fun, and striking out 14 in 7 innings against the 'Fins, and now he's broke another record.

What a guy. Mets seemingly on their way to 5-1.

The Mariners just keep playing bombs away. It's unbelievable (and likely a myth)! 32 HR's through 12 games is the most ever in MLB history.

Another 13 runs tonight. 10-2 start is like the farthest from expectations.

Still saying there is no way they can sustain this fluke start.

At last, at long last, a clean sheet. How can my Cubs score so many and lose so much?

I'll take the 10 - 0 and hope the future will improve. Eamus catuli. Keep scoring lots of runs.

Mariners win again! 7-6 comeback win for a four game sweep of the Royals. 13-2 now.

Now I am not going to suggest this team will win 116 games like the 2001 team did, but so far it has a very similar vibe.

In 2001 the expectations heading into the season was basically doom and gloom. We had just lost Alex Rodriguez in free agency. The season prior we traded Griffey. The season before that we traded Randy Johnson. So three of the four HOF caliber players we had were gone. We had some slap hitting Japanese guy coming in, and no big name signings. Who knew Ichiro would turn put to be so good? A chemically enhanced Bret Boone statistically replaced A-Rod, and couple of others had career years.

Entering this season it was probably even a more doom and gloom feel considering how many really good players we let go in the offseason.

Anyway, I doubt we can maintain it, but so far it's got an eerily similar feel to that 2001 team.

Cubs 8-2 over the last ten games, finally nosing over .500 tonight. Good win over a good Dodgers team, Q looking sharp again, Cubs offense tormenting Maeda early.

Only two games out. Things looking so much better than two weeks ago. Eamus catuli!

Mets doing weird Metsy things this year.

deGrom, Syndergaard and Wheeler now all hit home runs. How many times in history have three different pitchers hit home runs for the same team in the opening month?

What is in that new ball?
