The issue here is not where we are in the table but any chance of actually improving and progressing.

Us finishing 8th is not a testament to a good job by allardyce but how bad the league has been this season. The fact we never dropped out the top 10 for like 3 months despite not winning any games speaks for itself, the quality of of the teams below us has been poor.

Essentially when you look at all the games we threw points away in, how many poor away performances against teams we could and should have beaten, how high could we have finished? You look at arsenals point total and we aren't that far behind them, Burnley we should have passed also.

And the question is do you think allardyce over 38 games can really improve on this? Will the football improve? Will he improve the squad? Because the aim needs to be challenging for the Europa league spots no matter what, and 7th doesn't really count when it's because the top 4 winning the trophies that qualifies it.

...Allardyce has done the job he was brought in to do. Indeed, it can be argued he’s done it very well. I was supportive of what he was doing but I think he missed a real opportunity to demonstrate an ability to take us further. Arsenal away was a line in the sand for me because it was a virtual surrender sending a non-competitive team out with a clear attitude that defeat was a formality.

Allardyce could have been in the right place at the right time, he could’ve banished the stereotypical view of him as a survivalist but i’m afraid he hasn’t done that. We’ll be ok if he stays but I think we all want better than ok.
I had wondered, albeit quietly, if this could end up being another Redknapp at Spurs; but as you say, he has shown no willingness to alter his approach and think on the front foot.

Just read somewhere that if Arsenal win the Europa league and the RS win the champions league, 8th gets Europa League. Anyone confirm this? Would we want it?

I asked this question the other day and the answer, alas, is NO :(

And I was reminded that this scenario arose last season when United won the EL.

They went in the CL but only Arsenal and EFC went in the Europa.

There was no place for the 8th placed team.

Dreadful season by all accounts, yet it looks like we are going to finish only 1 place below where we finished last season. Is it because the league is actually that dreadful bar 5-6 sides?

Agree with everything except your last sentence. We will not be OK if he stays, we will play defensively /parking the bus every game, including against the worst teams in he league (get used to subbing attackers off for centerbacks as a reotine event- big sams signature move.). The only excitement each year would be when we reach the min number of points needed to not get relegated, with no chance of anything better.

Most disappointing season ever as really expected much more this time .. Allardyce is not the man who can make next season better so he has to go and take his entourage with him ..

This season simply just went wrong - the players we signed did not step up to the mark as we expected and Koemans arrogance did not help with this either .

Unsworth inherited a broken squad and was to close to it make a difference but I think if had been left in charge we would probably be still in same place now .

I am hoping that Moshiri and his backers have more money to go again and as I am pretty sure they do can see some big changes in coming months and getting to the start of next season with new confidence that we can push on

Whatever happens we will still travel and support the team regardless so it’s all in the hands of the board and Mosh now to deliver for next year !

FS's Everton have earned 39 points from 22 Premier league games since he was appointed (Huddersfield at home, 2 December, lying 13th)
That's 1.77 points/ game
Repeated over 38 games that would be 67 points

This season,
City are top with 3 games to go on 91 points - maximum potentially 100
Chelsea are 5th with 3 games to go on 66 points - maximum potentially 75
Arsenal 6th have 4 games to go on 57 points - max 69
Burnley 7th have 2 games to go on 54 points - max 60
Everton 8th have 2 games to go on 48 points - max 54

If with transfers we kept pace with our present standing against other clubs, 67 points might be 6th or 7th.
Good enough?
NO from me.
Who can do better?

[hope the maths is right]

How many times has Allardyce reached over 50 a points season in his managerial career, that spans across 20 odd years with numerous clubs?

Has he ever reached 60 points?

Stop it mate, he's not good enough and there's zero evidence to prove he is..

It's 33 points from 22 games, 1.5 ppg, 57 over a season

He has to go but the process needs managing properly. I will be well peed off if we sack him and start the season with Unsworth as caretaker while we 'continue negotiations' with likely candidates.

Bizzare to think we will likely finish only 1 place behind last year. Though I think this is more a testament to the gulf in quality in the league rather than us actually significantly turning the season around.
We were 7th last season, by a huge margin. Even with a sizeable blip early season and a poor finish.

Allardyce has done what he does best, steady the ship. But I really can't face the thought of him or him being here for another season.
His ego and complete disconnect with the fans for starters. His treatment of Lookman (one of our brightest young talents) and of course the style of play.

I can take boring football all day if it yeilds results, despite what the media biffs say about us. But anyone who's watched any of our games recently will know it's more than boring football. It is pure anti-football. Static midfield incapable of stringing 2 passes together, attackers who seem afraid to have a shot at times and an isolated striker forced to constantly track back into midfield to receive the ball.

We have beaten teams with Sam in charge, not by being significantly
better or playing well, but by simply being slightly less crap than our opposition. Yesterday's result is a prime example of that.
It really is something when you can say, without irony, that the best passer of the ball in the team is your goalkeeper...

Granted, the rot started well before Sams arrival. I would even go back as far as the end of last season where you could see the performances and attitude of certain players drop.
But that does not let him off the hook. We have steadied, but have barely improved. If Moshiri is truly serious about us stepping up as a team, then Allardyce is nowhere near the standard we need.

Thanks for the ship steadying fatso, but don't let the door hit you on your enormous arse on the way out.
