I don't understand why it takes nearly 24 hours to identify the body.
I get they need to assess the body for signs of foul play and cause of death but that can still be done after confirming that it is her. They may well have already told the family but if they have why not confirm it to the public
I am not knocking the police as it is genuine question and I am sure they have their reasons.

After being submerged for this long the body would likely have little resemblance to her. Tissue will swell quite significantly.

I would expect there's enough evidence regardless to suggest it's her (clothes etc) but they will be following procedure to remove any doubt

As has been said three weeks in the water It’ll look little like her , clothes clearly can’t be enough to formally identify even if it’s indicative that it’s her. Hopefully there will be a relatively quick dna match but they found her less than 24 hrs ago .

DNA will be an alternative to a family member formally identifying her as well... Which given the time period in the water would be a horrible experience for anyone

Would be nice if this particular event leads to much stronger policing against social media bellends who think they can solve climes by trespassing, digging up forests, etc.

It’s a difficult one tbh. People looking out of genuine concern should be welcomed and indeed used by the Police as additional resource. Let’s not forget that the Police did not find the body, a couple of dog walkers who were probably deliberately or even unconsciously scanning the river as they walked did...….

I think there is a big difference between coordinated volunteers, dog walking locals and absolute halfwits videoing themselves confronting members of the community , saying they can smell decaying flesh and turning up at various private houses .

I honestly think a few people specifically the media and that absolute belter ‘search expert ‘ should have a long look at themselves because they’ve done nothing but Stoke rumour , wild speculation and innuendo .

The high-profile expert in the Nicola Bulley search has insisted the area where a body was found is "not part of my remit".
Peter Faulding, the head of Specialist Group International, is facing growing questions over why he insisted the missing mother-of-two was "categorically" not in the river.
He searched the River Wyre, by the village of St Michael's on Wyre where the 45-year-old went missing while walking her dog on Jan 27, for three days amid great fanfare but found nothing.
A body was found less than a mile away on Sunday afternoon after two walkers tipped off the police, with initial post-mortem examinations due to report shortly and Ms Bulley's "agonised" family have been informed.

'Not in our remit'

The police said they are "currently treating the death as unexplained".
In a new statement on Monday morning, Mr Faulding hit back at "unfair criticism" and "negativity".

He claimed: "Sadly, the discovery was not found in the river but in the reeds at the side of the river which was not part of our remit as the side scan sonar does not penetrate reeds above or below the water."
However, he admitted for the first time that he did search the exact stretch where the body was found "for four hours on our first day and then upstream past the weir on the subsequent two days".

Wriggle wriggle. As I've said before he could have quietly got involved with little fanfare. Really making a show of himself.

Feel sorry for the family because its just become a massive circus.

I agree about the idiots and these social media types. But again, even the media which can do an awful lot of harm also do a great deal of good by keeping it in the news and getting through to many folk who just then keep their eyes open. In my own families case, evidence that helped to put away the murderer was found many miles away by a man who spotted items that normally he and others would have ignored, because of the media keeping it in peoples minds…..

The guy’s a tit. Think initially he was trying to help, but the confidence level he was claiming to have “I’ll find her in 5 minutes. She’s 100% not in the river” set my bullsh!t alarm off.

When he’s then speculating about the phone being a decoy, and saying he can advise police of where in the woods they should be searching, he was obviously overstepping his remit, and at that point is no more an expert than any other social media sleuth.

Fact that even this morning he’s going on telly because he’s getting criticism, speaks to a man with a big ego. Should be keeping his head down, not trying to publicly justify himself.

Absolutely. I think he's been a liability from the off. Sure he's got a right to his opinion and to voice it, but given the context, he should really think hard before doing so. Problem of the modern world more widely. He says on an Internet forum 😆

It's an awful case, and I feel very sorry for this poor woman. But I can't help but raise a smile at this utter bellend getting his due

They can Pete and I certainly accept your point and I’m obviously glad in your case . To me it seems though that the media however will pursue the story because they want it to garner viewers or readers , a positive result is if anything a by product of their actions.

What I do , in someways find interesting, is how certain cases gain attention frankly totally at odds with events . A woman going missing and being found in the river , with let’s say nobody else involved is frankly really a local news story but very probably because of her appearance, social status and a couple of other factors it’s been the biggest story out there for weeks .

Indeed. People should remember why they are even doing what they are doing and who it’s for. Both this guy and the Police (with the drinking comments etc) should always have it in their heads that it’s not about them, it’s about the woman and her family. Keeping his head down is good advice….
