Current Affairs Missing woman in Lancashire

I know they can do remarkable things with a post mortem, but I don't think they'll be able to do much more than determine she died by drowning and has been in the water for three weeks. Maybe they can tell if she had any alcohol in her system, although that's likely also been blown way out of proportion with people assuming she's been driving around while absolutely bladdered, etc. Or they may be able to tell she had some kind of seizure, before or after hitting the water. I think it'll be unexplained death, no third party involvement, by drowning. End of story.

Blood toxicology tests tells you nearly everything you need to know about, what was ingested prior to death.

Indeed. People should remember why they are even doing what they are doing and who it’s for. Both this guy and the Police (with the drinking comments etc) should always have it in their heads that it’s not about them, it’s about the woman and her family. Keeping his head down is good advice….

There you go again equating this no mark gammon to the Police. The Police must have had their reasons for doing/saying what they did and it will undoubtedly be the subject of further follow-up and investigation. The other eejit was out for his own personal gain it seems.

It’s a difficult one tbh. People looking out of genuine concern should be welcomed and indeed used by the Police as additional resource. Let’s not forget that the Police did not find the body, a couple of dog walkers who were probably deliberately or even unconsciously scanning the river as they walked did...….
Agreed @peteblue. It’s a difficult one. I would imagine all the TikTok bell ends would claim to have been looking “out of genuine concern”.

They can Pete and I certainly accept your point and I’m obviously glad in your case . To me it seems though that the media however will pursue the story because they want it to garner viewers or readers , a positive result is if anything a by product of their actions.

What I do , in someways find interesting, is how certain cases gain attention frankly totally at odds with events . A woman going missing and being found in the river , with let’s say nobody else involved is frankly really a local news story but very probably because of her appearance, social status and a couple of other factors it’s been the biggest story out there for weeks .
Her appearance etc will no doubt have been a factor but I think the main thing that made it a story was it originally had all the hallmarks of a classic mystery case. Woman goes walking, is seen by multiple people, is on a call etc, and then suddenly is gone leaving behind a phone and a dog to show exactly where she was, with only a 10 minute window and 99% of escape routes ruled out; it's like a locked room mystery. When it was first reported people were talking about it in my office without any idea of what she looked like etc, it was just that it seemed really weird. Even by later that day I think enough had come out to make it seem like a much more mundane (though obviously tragic) situation. Lots of people just seemed to want it to continue to be a mystery even when it looked almost impossible for anything else to have happened, hence all the 'it was someone else dressed up as her', 'the dog that i've never met would DEFINITELY have done this' type stuff. It's not comparable to most missing person cases in that sense, which goes a long way to explaining the interest.

I don’t disagree but I also mean the media almost certainly wouldn’t have covered the story for people to get invested with it had she been working class , from a Different visible ethnic group , had an obvious chaotic lifestyle or whatever .

To me it’s a chicken and egg thing in the media coverage creates the interest which then feeds peoples desire for more information. There are lots of cases be it missing individuals or murders where the case receives huge amounts of publicity whilst other cases almost none . It’s not a criticism of the victims just the media knows what ‘sells’ . How many people know the names of famous murders yet couldn’t name someone killed a couple of streets away .

The guy’s a tit. Think initially he was trying to help, but the confidence level he was claiming to have “I’ll find her in 5 minutes. She’s 100% not in the river” set my bullsh!t alarm off.

When he’s then speculating about the phone being a decoy, and saying he can advise police of where in the woods they should be searching, he was obviously overstepping his remit, and at that point is no more an expert than any other social media sleuth.

Fact that even this morning he’s going on telly because he’s getting criticism, speaks to a man with a big ego. Should be keeping his head down, not trying to publicly justify himself.
Yeah if he hadn't rocked up on gb news like Robert Shaw in jaws he wouldn't be coping flack now. Just imagine the false cruel hope he gave the family with his absolutes of not being in the river

A horrible and tragic situation. I would hope they can just get DNA from the children to assess a match, rather than the husband (or other family member) doing the ID, as it will not be pleasant and it's not a way to remember a loved one when you see them so decomposed and ravaged by the elements. Best stick to the memories of when they were alive and happy, not dead and disfigured in a morgue.

If you are interested in how bodies decompose in water/rivers, I found this study below. The author seems to specialize in forensic cases of water deaths.
