Mikel Arteta The Football Manager

I wouldn't be happy if we employed someone without any managerial experience.

The Arsenal support are used to being more successful than us over the past 25 years and you would expect to be going for a higher tier of manager - probably who is seen as up and coming but has already had relative success.

Arsenal's squad has lacked a winning mentality for about a decade. They are capable of playing great stuff but seem to lack a backbone.

Perhaps Arteta will go their and be hugely successful but I personally think he would absolutely bomb. I don't believe the role is suited for either party at this time.

If they're Spanish or Portuguese and they want to be a manager, then by definition they will be good managers because they're not english.

At least that's how the media see it, based on the fact that they've had a good few years over there nationally.

Positive racism!

This came up quicker than I thought it would

The people making these decisions are a hell of a lot more ITK about Arteta than any of us on here. He may well have built up a fantastic reputation within his profession and could have a list of recommendations as long as his arm.

Maybe Arsenal are looking at a different direction post Wenger and simply want a manager without a reputation who won't rock the boat or demand anything like the level of control Wenger had.

If they try Arteta and it goes well it's fantastic for them, if it goes wrong then it's not a massive blow to replace him. Getting shut of the 1st team Manager is an increasingly less momentous occasion and Wenger was probably the last of the empire builders.

Highly rated as a coach, Pochettino makes frequent reference to his tactical knowledge throughout his book. If he’s given the time he should do very well.

Arteta with his tactical knowledge would suit sitting alongside a director of football type.

No matter what info the Arsenal board are partial to regarding Arteta, it's a gamble. But too much emphasis is placed on experience and reputation. What about character, intelligence and hunger?

Arsenal are like us in a way, albeit operating from a higher baseline. They need to take a risk, or they could end up drifting for a few years. I think this is a great move for them. I hope it works and other clubs take notice, like ourselves

Very odd appointment for me. Arteta could turn into a great coach and I loved him as a player, but it's a massive risk for Arsenal who need top 4 and challenging for cups at a minimum. They needed a more proven candidate for me.

if I were arsenal, and after watching United go into freefall after hiring an unknown entity in Moyes, I would be hesitant to be hiring an complete nocice in Arteta.

I would defo be speaking to benitez, a league and multiple cup winner who has a grasp on all things premier league.

even if its for a couple of years, to transition from wenger-nal to a normal club again.

utter suicide hiring Arteta!

They should be going for a Simone/Conte type for me.
