Would be gutted if he took the Arsenal job and was a revelation. On paper, Arteta is the kind of character I’d love to have as our new gaffer - young, ambitious, very intelligent, charismatic, and not part of the usual suspects when manager names are bandied about.

I'd suspect because if they went for a big name he would demand a big transfer budget, if that is the case Arteta is better off where he is building a rep, it would also be a missed opportunity, with the right manager and some good signings that arsenal team could competet

With arteta as manager I'm assuming the style on the pitch won't change. He just has to buy the right players (easier said then done no star is coming to Arsenal) and not sell them directly to Chelsea, ManU or City if they become stars.

Arsenal are more likely than not to rinse through a few managers now, so there's actually nothing wrong with taking a flyer on Arteta. He'd likely fail, but then everyone would likely fail in this situation, and he has at least an outside chance of being good, it's not like he's Paul Ince.

It's basically a Man Utd Ferguson / Moyes situation, albeit not quite at that level. Wenger has been in total charge for decades, and despite what their crying fans may say, has maintained a stunningly consistent level of performance. That doesn't just happen like it's a natural phenomenon or something, it's all on Arsene. So when he steps away it'll be like a meteor strike, the club will be absolutely rocked.

Only thing is for Mikel himself is if he took the job (and you can't really say no to it) and it went badly, as it easily could, then that could be managerial career over before it had begun. Think a totally untried manager might struggle to recover from that.

Was going to write exactly that, instead of hiring someone on big money they are taking a punt and if they don't perform then whoever comes in afterwards will look better.

It will be our best chance of finishing above Arsenal for yonks if Arteta is named their manager. At the start it will be perfect but as soon as he hits a sticky patch his inexperience will be picked upon and the club will unravel faster than a toilet roll that has been set upon by a pack of andrex puppies.

Well, he came from Grampus in Japan, but had actually managed French teams prior- including managing a precocious young talent in Monsieur Henry before he went to Juve.

if I were arsenal, and after watching United go into freefall after hiring an unknown entity in Moyes, I would be hesitant to be hiring an complete nocice in Arteta.

I would defo be speaking to benitez, a league and multiple cup winner who has a grasp on all things premier league.

It isn't like he's a huge name either. No senior caps, a few pots in Scotland and an FA cup.

Yeah but that Spain team, he was never getting in that, if he was good enough for them he wouldn't of been playing at Rangers and Everton.
Besides we've just had a manager who won all kinds, club and country, and he was pathetic, good players rarly make top managers

There is unknown and then there is green. His first job will be Arsenal, let that sink in for a moment. Ok the man he works for started with an even bigger club but Pep had an all conquering Barca side that you or I could manage to win trophies in. I think Pep was also at least manager of the B team or youth team first.

I feel sorry for Arteta if he gets this as it could be his only top job and he has got it when he is least prepared for it.
