Mikel Arteta The Football Manager

wonderful player and a beautiful man, sounds like he is valued as a coach which doesn't surprise me as he was a very intelligent footballer, complete unknown as a manager but has as good a credentials as anyone going into it.

I realise we are suppose to pretend he wasn't that good because he left to win things and play in the champions league, but he remains one of my favourite everton players of the prem era, made those around him play better as well

If they're Spanish or Portuguese and they want to be a manager, then by definition they will be good managers because they're not english.

At least that's how the media see it, based on the fact that they've had a good few years over there nationally.

Positive racism!
in fairness who was the last top class english manager?

I genuinely don't think they're given a chance at the top in England. Far less risky to buy in someone from abroad where the mistakes they made while learning were less well broadcast and analysed by meh pundits.

The English gaffers have more friends in the media just through being here longer and building up contacts, I find it difficult to believe someone would invest millions in a company and refuse to hire the best man for the job based on image, coaching in the UK has been a long way behind their European peers for some time now

Arsenal are more likely than not to rinse through a few managers now, so there's actually nothing wrong with taking a flyer on Arteta. He'd likely fail, but then everyone would likely fail in this situation, and he has at least an outside chance of being good, it's not like he's Paul Ince.

It's basically a Man Utd Ferguson / Moyes situation, albeit not quite at that level. Wenger has been in total charge for decades, and despite what their crying fans may say, has maintained a stunningly consistent level of performance. That doesn't just happen like it's a natural phenomenon or something, it's all on Arsene. So when he steps away it'll be like a meteor strike, the club will be absolutely rocked.

Only thing is for Mikel himself is if he took the job (and you can't really say no to it) and it went badly, as it easily could, then that could be managerial career over before it had begun. Think a totally untried manager might struggle to recover from that.

Love Arteta, but he's not ready for premier league level management yet, he would have been a good option for Rangers, he used to play for them.
