All very laudable about how the club has changed etc.But let's see if we can start taking points from games like todays.Hope the post match comments on Keane are as favourable.

Wow.

And to think the stick he got. And how many managers put themselves before the players health.

No wonder no one wanted to play for any of them last year.

Feel sorry for the lad now. Great to see him playing himself back into form.
Is it any wonder that some players rule themselves out of contention when they’ve got a niggle?

A true professional treated like cattle by crap managers. Who hasn’t been there in real life!?
I know I can empathise with the lad much more after hearing that and he kept his mouth shut all this time about it too! Professional.
Im not sure what came out that you all are referring to but would like a link. I was one of the ones who called for his head. Im not sold but he has been playing well. I still get nervous with him.

It was a horrific season for Keane - a serious injury, no chance to recover, and precious little sympathy either. His injury wasn't a secret - and his problem was published in the Echo in January. But today's article makes clear just how bad the injury was, and how badly he was treated.

Michael Keane missed yesterday's defeat at Leicester after developing an infection in the foot that was cut open five weeks ago. The defender didn't travel with the Everton squad to the King Power Stadium and caretaker manager David Unsworth explained after the game that Keane had to be hospitalised to treat the problem.

Keane suffered a gash to his foot in the League Cup Third Round win over Sunderland on 20th September and missed the next two games but returned to face his old club at the start of the month. He has battled to keep the wound closed, however, and it became infected, spreading up his leg and requiring more intensive treatment. Keane will be discharged from hospital today but it is unclear when he will be ready to play again.

Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth said: "Leighton [Baines] said he felt his calf. We'll assess him but it doesn't look good for Wednesday. Michael [Keane] is different but I need to find out the latest on him."

He has started 15 of the Blues’ 23 Premier League matches so far this term but Keane has been in and out of the squad with numerous injuries to his foot - twice with a gash that reared its head following the New Year’s Day defeat at home to Manchester United. Keane added that he is “being hampered at the minute with the injuries” and wants to get back to playing consistently.

Michael Keane has lifted the lid on the injury nightmare that has left him struggling for top form at Everton. Keane, a £25million summer arrival from Burnley, has missed the recent defeats at Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool after a recurrence of a foot problem first suffered in September.

The 24-year-old ended up in hospital following the initial damage, a gash on the foot that became infected and required medical attention. And the defender has revealed to what extent the recovery from that injury, and Everton's difficult autumn that cost Ronald Koeman his job, has contributed to his inconsistent showings.

“My first few months here were really positive, we began solidly in the Europa League and had a few good results in the Premier League,” said Keane. “I was playing well but then the team lost a little bit of form and, as a squad, we went through a really tough few months, which I was part of. I probably lost a bit of confidence – like a few of the lads.

“I have had a few injuries as well, which I have not been used to. That has thrown me a bit, because in the past few years I have normally played every game. I ended up in hospital and on a load of tablets, which left me feeling not as sharp and well in myself as I usually do."

Incredibly, Keane was rushed back to play less than a week after being released from hospital. It was the same routine: painkillers and outsized boots. Then it got really distressing. Everton travelled to Southampton and, on the pitch, he felt very strange. "I think that the pills I was taking were making me very drowsy," he says. "I felt that I couldn't concentrate." He told staff at half time but went back out, lasting until the 75th minute before he could play no more.

That was it. He stopped the painkillers and in December finally had a break. And still it wasn't over. Facing Manchester United on January 1, he contested a header with Anthony Martial and Martial landed on his foot - in exactly the injured spot. It burst open again. Another puddle of blood when he took off the boot.
