Should this officer be allowed to crack this goon over the head with his truncheon?
No but threatening an officer and being aggressive is 'common assault' is it not? So cuff him, charge him, add it to the list of this offenders history and plead with the courts to finally give him some time that he'll feel. If he wants to resist then a more forceful cuffing is required, but truncheons round the bonce can and do result in very bad outcomes. And I can name a few sadly.

How about pepper spray in his grill and save the court expense / aggro & ultimately the £120 fine & £80 cost?

Escalation of force is supposed to be the last option?
I think you’re right, but I also think that the absence of the old school clip round the ear (which was often a truncheon rather than a clip) is partially why these goons feel empowered to behave they way they do.
Imho some of it is to do with rotten coppers over stepping the mark so they all needed to be reined in, which has basically undermined there own authority.
I do think that would not have gone unpunished in France / Germany / Spain etc. he’d have got a good cudgelling imo.

I know it sucks, I know we all fall under the spell of instant justice dispensed mercilessly from time to time, sadly the job is to behave better than the rest of us, it means desperate and dangerous situations, and it means risk. The thin blue line else where does not fill me with confidence, and the less said about the paranoia surrounding our pals in the US and their toxic application of law the better.
Mentioned the other day about being thankful for the tight gun laws in the UK, we all don't know how lucky we are.

This is a bit of a grey area.

Did you know, a police officer is unlikely to arrest someone for a Sec 5. Public Order offence if it's directed at an officer / not in the presence of the public?

Why, because the courts deem that they will/should accept words or disorderly behaviour that are likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress as part of their job.

Pointing a finger at a cop and being a bit aggressive, without explicit threats, isn't going to get you charged.

First fella deserves a whack. Dont go walking aggressively towards a police dog.

Second fella who has the dog set on him was walking back. Then another battered on legs while on the floor. There should be some police disciplined for that. The dog handler loses control/sets the dog (or cant control it)/escalates the situation.

That is not what I see. The police are totally justified in my opinion. Well done them.

No problem with the dog bite, they were warned SEVERAL times & if the officer feels like there’s a threat he’s well entitled to.

Agree with the second point. Exactly the same as the police officer in Manchester Airport, which I’m sure you’ll agree with.

Words>walking away.

The police shouldn't be escalating - which is exactly what she's done. If the officer deems that a threat to have a dog attack, she's in the wrong job.
