It’s not my ham fisted attempts at horticulture thenI Have 4 olive trees but no meaningful olives. It really isn't warm enough in this country to produce fruit. Same with bananas. I can grown the plant to over 8 feet but no chance of any fruit

I wish!Is this because you keep getting stopped for ID when trying to buy a drink?
Well I am going to Scotland in June as it goes but I have always wanted to go on Eurostar (getting to the stage in life when it’s now or never) hence the need for a passport. Incidentally my Mum only ever made one trip abroad and that was to Paris on Eurostar, she and my brother took my son and daughter on a day trip.Where are you going ? Scotland ? Well done you .
Ooh lovely. I haven't been to Paris for years. If you have the time when you are there, get a train to Versaiiles. You won't regret it- especially with your love of old buildings. It is magnificent.I wish!

The Eurostar is something I think I would like to try as well someday. I like train travel in general and that would be quite a unique experience I think. I bet @peteblue has used it before?I wish!

I used it for the matches in Liège and Lille , it’s nothing special to be honest. First class ( or whatever they call it) maybe worthwhile but I expect it’s not cheap. The Eurostar is something I think I would like to try as well someday. It's horrible mate. For work preparation today I undertook a crash course in hearing loss and both British and Irish Sign Language. It was a presentation for me more or less with me interrupting a million times for questions. During it I heard a fascinating fact re tinnitus. I understood that people hear different things to varying levels of discomfort etc. However, an example was given to me of one person whose tinnitus manifests as permanent Christmas carols 24/7.
Every day is a school day.

I think I've had it for years but never actually realised- probably too many loud concerts in my younger days. Sometimes I hear a very annoying ticking in my ears and if I have been somewhere loud, everybody who speaks to me afterwards sound like they are quacking! It's horrible mate.
You know that roar from the South Stand after Barry's 2nd goal on Monday? Wonderful wasn't it?
Not when you hear similar 24/7![]()
Me too. I love trains. Probably a throwback ti having the Liverpool- London mainline at the bottom of our garden in the house we lived in as kids. The Eurostar is something I think I would like to try as well someday. It must be a very debilitating condition to have Kev. Like Anj mentioned, I have experienced mild versions of it from concerts but nothing beyond a day or two. It's horrible mate.

By way of reference, First Class on the Belfast to Dublin train is around £40/50 extra and all that gets you is a table light; glass of orange juice; newspaper and table service from a menu. Really not worth it as you can pre-book a seat in normal class and walk up to the bar anyway (if you don’t want to wait on the trolley which also has beer and wine).I used it for the matches in Liège and Lille , it’s nothing special to be honest. On my regular train commute, there are new houses built in the last 10 years right at the tracks. I just don’t get why someone would buy a new house so close to the line. In a lot of cases, the gardens are small and you are literally looking into people’s houses.Me too. I love trains. Even a professional lip reader only picks up 30% of words accurately (so I learned today). Visual cues was a big thing I honed in on today in that we all rely on them heavily without realising. In that respect, for me, learning how to always speak to a person with hearing difficulties rather than their sign language interpreter will be difficult at first. It’s human nature to turn towards sound and movement but quite rude in this one to one context.TBH I may have been guilty of exaggeration for comic effect. with my last post A.T..
It is very annoying at times though.
My hearing in general is poor (despite the aids) but I manage OK in 1 to 1 interactions, it's much more of a problem in group situtions I can't actually 'lip read' but definately rely on visual cues. I have also become almost entirely reliant on subtitles when watching TV.![]()
