Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

In Seattle with my daughter, she is going to a concert here tonight, so having a bit of a daughter and dad get away

Great city lots to do and see, I’ll have to find a pub while she’s at the concert

I think I’ll manage
Two questions. Who is she seeing and, after travelling all that way, why didn't you go with her?. I do appreciate that the answer to the first question might explain the second.

For once we didn't get it quite as bad down here. Still stopped my usual weekly venture into Falmouth for fresh foods. Playing hell with my weekend cooking plans.
Our chippy was queued out at 5pm so I placed my order and went for a pint across the square. The bar had candles already out on the tables- there was nothing stopping their Friday 😀

Just giving the new Ash album a listen. Mixed bag but a few cracking songs on there. Not a patch on Free All Angels though which, probably unfairly, is the yardstick I measure them against. Plus, I absolutely adored their guitarist who is sadly no longer with them. Going to give The Sprints new album a listen next. I'm a bit behind on that one.

I've found a new album which is another contender for my AOTY and I've been listening to a lot. Getting Killed by Geese, a New York based underground band. I discovered them last year and absolutely loved their 2023 album 3D Country. Not sure if you'll get them mate. They are very much in the mould of the alternative rock bands coming out of the London scene we discussed a few months ago, Fat Dog, Ugly, The Orchestra for now etc. But they have a female lead guitarist and you know what I'm like. The new album is getting a lot of critical acclaim which i kinda expected. But it's also blowing up on social media with the sort of response that Imaginal Disk received last year, which surprised me. It probably needs a few listens to really appreciate. The singers voice is marmite, bit like Ms Morris. But it's an earworm for me.

Edit. The first track will likely put you off but persevere. ;)

I’m pretty rubbish at keeping up with people too to be honest even though I’ve stayed put. My husband’s the sociable one and I have very few proper friends who are not shared. Sometimes the pressure of life, working full time and more in a stressful job and bringing up a family leaves little room for anything else. I have been in touch with people who were good friends a long time ago since I retired and find we have little in common anymore. That’s life I guess. It’s good to have family close by though isn’t it.
I find the same with old work friends that it is almost all you have in common and shows through when the conversation drops to work related past or a gentle goodbye .

Fun people is the stand out track on the album. I always liked Ash and their annual Belfast Christmas gig was a great night. Didn’t like Tim Wheeler’s oul fella though, butted heads a few times with him 😀

Will try Geese today. A new one for me.

I enjoyed Fun People but thought it was a bit too much "Song 2". My fave was the title track, which is bound to be the least played track on the album as it's the last one. But I thought that was vintage Ash.

Did you listen to New Dad? Thought it was OK but their debut was better IMO.

D

It was a female Korean group (not my scene), she has been into K pop for long time, she actually sold a signed album for a few thousand dollars about 10yrs ago

I went to a pub and met some interesting American folk sitting at the wood, to say they can’t stand Trump would be an understatement, so we all got on well.

Good morning all on this super morning ,I hope all are well and had a good night .Off to the shops today with plans to buy pike perch which is a fish not found in the UK as far as I know but we had it in Austria and they called it zander . It is beautiful to eat ,I remember on UK masterchef finals once they sent one finalist to Copenhagen and then tasted his food and the judges were gomsmacked by it's taste . It is not cheap around 40€ per kilo but we don't eat vast amounts of it . We are on the lookout for bacon ribs too .
Yesterday was 27 years since I first set foot in Finland ,so we had to celebrate that with a bubbly .
Have a great day all COYB.
Thought this might be of interest, or not, ooh, the tension.

There's more !

And finally, the Finnish Stepford Wives.

Imagine if Kopites had to endure what we had the last 30 years! They be throwing themselves off tall buildings in Norway and Kent.

Haven’t got listening to New Dad but have given Geese a couple of plays. Not sure what to make of it which is normally a good sign for me. A few more listens will bring it out of itself. At first blush, no two songs are obvious sister songs and as such it’s hard to define them. His vocals remind me of Kid A and all the tricks on its production. That first track has no place on the album though.

I’m not seeing your Fat Dog comparison though? Dominant male vocalist maybe? They remind me of an Aussie Band but for the life of me I can’t remember their name. They have a song referencing football and that’s all I got.
