Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Hello everybody. How's your Sunday going? I've done overtime this morning, phoned my Dad (full Everton da mode - professional footballers, can't hit the bloody goal etc etc) so he's doing OK, had a very healthy salad lunch and I'm making stir fry for tea. Mr F is snoozing on the couch, daughter and her boyfriend are away visiting son and his girlfriend in Nottingham. I'm so glad they have that kind of sibling relationship.

Not much planned for this week, I will have to think of something to do on Wednesday for our wedding anniversary. Not sure that watching the Newcastle Everton match will do anything for marital relationships ?

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday x

Not stalking, just checking you are okay,@Barnfred 55 .
Don't worry H, I'm OK. Still having issues with my mobile so not spending as much time in here and more time watching telly. The phone is 10 times worse now and think i need an SD card, or a new phone if that doesn't work. Nice day forecast for tomorrow so planning a trip into Falmouth to see if i can get an SD card somewhere.

Quite an odd one. Read a book, cover to cover, written by a mate of mine. Kev, from the pub.

Same age as me, and is from The Falklands, and witnessed the invasion in 82. Crikey, I/we have no idea what the Kelpers (Falkland for Scouse) went through. Booby trapped kids toys, not showing that civilians were in some buildings, ruined houses once it was obvious they were losing. Proper grim. He joined the Paras soon after, and ended up running a global tunneling company, worth £00000's.

No Ordinary Man, by Kevin Browning, if anyone is arsed. He even name checks the pub, and my mate Turkey.

Chicken casserole later.

That sounds like a good read. I'll check it out. Mid 80s I went out with former para who had fought in The Falklands. He was a security guard at the Royal when I met him. I volunteered with the hospital radio station. Lovely bloke but with hindsight, he had some major issues about it. As soon as he had a drink or two he would start crying and talk about his experiences and his lost comrades I don't think there was much support offered in those days.

Indeed, my mate served as a major in the Falklands, mentioned in dispatches and became a Lieutenant Colonel. He will never say anything about that war, and tbf we never ask him…….

Sailors/soldiers/airmen will happily talk about the good times, but the hard times aren’t something to talk about. It’s compartmentalised.

My dad was POW in Japan for 3 1/2 years, it was only in the latter stages of his life he told me things that went on in the camp,

We count our blessings of the life we have now, some of the things he told me I cannot fathom out out how he lived to the grand old age of 83

Half relevant to the discussion above, today was the first military funeral I have been to. Not a large scale thing, a piper and 8 soldiers who carried the coffin etc.

The ceremonial folding of the flag and presenting to the widow was very emotional but at the same time like watching a movie.
My Dad was a US Marine who served in Korea. His funeral was like that with Marines carrying the casket and the playing of Taps. They gave the folded flag to me. I'm glad I had the military honors performed for him and that other veterans around the world have similar honors done.

Good morning all ,I hope all slept well and have a great day today .I would have posted earlier but reading the WSAG exerpts has me in stitches and then the wife asking me to tell "What is so funny " spoiling it ,as it does not translate . I am sure there was a mention of @Barnfred 55 in there with his horse betting ! Nice to see VAR in the City match once again using every rule in the book to stop their goal .If that was a foul then they should award 20 penalties per game .
Have a great day all COYB .
P.S. If Gordon is asking for a hundred grand per week (Daily Mail)then he must have decided to go . It is way too much for a lad who has played so few games and it will be interesting to see if the club coughs up.

I can see how it would be a comfort for the family indeed.
