Wow Gwladys, another parallel universe experience =along with brown knickers. I had a Saturday job in Littlewoods in Liverpool city centre for about three years. Occasional checkout operator but mostly on the cheese counter. I remember those customers well. They asked for a pound of cheddar and wanted a pound of cheddar - not under, not over but exact. I became a bit of an expert with cutting the square blocks but OMG the round ones like Wensleydale and Stilton. Could never judge them. @coollino I worked in the days when we wrote the prices on the bags and then the person had to take them to the checkout. If a poor looking pensioner came in and asked for two ounces of cheddar, I would cut a massive lump off and just write the price for two ounces on the bag.Great checkout stories @anjelikaferrett and @IrishBlue2022 warms the cockles. You’re right @Armaghtoffee sometimes on the checkout you need the patience of a saint. I used to do Christmas temping when my kids were small. The first year I did it I got a job in Littlewoods and was put on the cheese counter. Cutting the cheese off the block was an absolute nightmare and I used to dread it. We had one regular customer who wanted 4 ounces of cheese exactly, she would make you cut it again if it wasn’t right. Dreadful woman, so rude and treated us like dirt. But as our supervisor used to say they can’t sack you for what you’re thinking. I got a job in WH Smith the next Christmas though. lol
