Mentality

A small point, some would say trivial and pedantic. They could be right...

But 97th minute equaliser at home, against 10 men.

5 minutes left on the clock.

Instead of getting on with the game going for that winner as the top teams no doubt would, our players go an celebrate with the crowd.

Instinct should be to get the ball out the net and get that winner, not this;

I get what you are saying. And I sort of agree. But it took us 98 minutes to get that goal.
Hypothetical yes.......But it could have taken us another 98 minutes to get a second. Who knows....
Who knows what would have happened if we had had a proper go at them in the last five minutes also...

But I suspect that our players were just happy to not have lost that match.
I know that I was. That draw was far better than getting beat. And of course far better than last season's result.
That draw will look far better in the bigger scheme of things of we can somehow beat Southampton next week...
..And beyond next week......I'm worried.

Just compare that to Robertson's reaction after he scored against Villa. And the rest of their team as a whole. A couple of high fives but striaght back at it.
And also, hate to say it, but even when the 2nd went in, they still were going for a third.

Silva's post match interview was dreadful imo......no criticism of Son, who should have been yellow carded anyway after diving in the first half, or the ref, or even var. Gutless and insipid he does not inspire confidence. Plucky old Everton mentality still evident

I can remember Moyes making a similar point years ago, telling his players that they should be bringing the ball back to look for a winner rather than celebrating an equaliser. But Marco Silva is a complete loser, so what do you expect?

The trick now is to show that passion and intensity early doors against Southampton. And not be leaving everything to the 97th minute.
Get out of the blocks sharpish next week. And for once give a full 90 minutes performance. And not be looking for something to happen in injury time.

Yesterday has gone. We got a draw. I'm just about happy with that. Just about.

Expected loss's springs to mind. Maybe this was an expected loss that we got a draw from.

As for Silva and VAR
What happens now is the next time we have a dodgy one the VAR people will think 'well its only Silva, he wont say anything' and we won't get it.
If this was Klopp or Mourinho they would have went mental, and in turn put huge pressure on the next VAR decision.

Has to be said.

Would we still have scored if gomes didn't go off? They lose a player and immediately go defensive.

we didn't really look like scoring against their 11.

They accept mediocrity everywhere. The baxendale appointment reeked of the easy option.

silva has nothing to suggest he was the man for the job in the first place.

we’ve heard nothing from the Iranian Penfold regarding a strategy for the business just silence.

thats Never happening under Marco. Well hold on for some time and then lose 2-0.

Load of fans like the ones on All Together Now podcast will say ‘well you can’t blame Marco for that because it’s the refs fault or var’

absolute madness

I do blame Silva for everything. The buck stops with him. But what can we do. Except hope for the best. Hope that something happens.
And yes I know that it never does. But what can you do. That's Everton.......
Our board are as dithery as our manager and players. It's agony now supporting this bloody team. But what can you do.

By itself we can't.

Like I said last night , we keep blaming everything else and soon we can say var relegated us. However over the other 89 minutes of a game we aren't beating teams. We could get a penalty every week from var and miss them all, means nothing.

Now isn't the time for excuses, it's for reasoning. You can blame a single result for these things but not them all.

Not a small point at all. I was screaming at them to get on with the match and win it. Honestly Cenk aside, it's just basically thick to celebrate. That said I think a lot of my anger came from the injury to Gomes yesterday. Such a strange day.
