We've just had a week of shock and mourning in Ireland because a member of An Garda Síochána - our police force - was murdered when he intervened in a domestic dispute. The person who fired the shots (who also shot his partner and then turned the gun on himself) had the weapon in his possession because of his connection to paramilitaries.

The point being that even though the weapon was not used for its intended purpose, the fact that he had it in his possession gave rise to the possibility of it being used for a different purpose other than that for which it was meant.

Human nature is unpredictable and subject to emotions. And for that reason alone it makes absolutely no sense that anyone should be allowed to legally possess weapons, because they can always be used in an emotive situation where they otherwise wouldn't be if they weren't in the person's possession.
But in this case if he wanted to take out his anger on a load of school kids instead of his missus all the gun laws in the world wouldn't have done anything to stop him because he managed to get his dirty Provo mitts on a gun illegally.

There was a 6 year old shot by two coppers last week, no sign of rioting. I can't imagine why that is.
There was a 3-year-old shot in Cleveland in a gang-related incident. I'm beginning to think people are starting to target kids for shock value and it is sick (not in the case of your story). There have been a lot of young kids shot recently.

That was a bad situation. GTA level aggro by the Marshalls, who were operating out of their jurisdiction. Both with charges for 2nd degree murder and attempted 2nd degree murder. Some think the dispute is over a woman, and all of the initial comments by local jurisdictions have been walked back. This will get even messier before it gets cleaned up. There is apparently body camera video of the incident, but everyone speaking on record says they "haven't watched it yet."

The lack of mass protest confuses me.

wow...i mean...wow...the lack of self-awareness is stunning.

apparently every Hollywood film sanctioned by the major film studios has to have at least one shot of the US flag in it. The theory goes it's a crude but effective way to program unstinting patriotism into the masses.
