..I find it so difficult to be confident about any youngster because the step up is massive (exception of Rooney). We see them occasionally and usually against their peers, the coaches see them daily. I can't see a manager not picking his best team. RK appears unconvinced by many in his squad yet still doesn't pick young replacements.
In the past you have suggested all young players should get a run of first team games. You have pushed particularly for McAleney and Duffy. You can't use the Premier League for young trialists. There aren't many who fail to come through with us who reach top level.
Actually, I haven't ever said that, despite utter Jambo's suggesting otherwise
What I've said is that if a young player comes in and does well, he should get another chance
The schism that exists is that, for me, "doing well" is doing the job asked of you to a competent level and not looking out of place (As Duffy did every time he played for us) but for others, "doing well", means you have to be amazing and if you fail to be amazing even just once, you are deemed not good enough
Pennington has come in and done well
Galloway has come in and done well
Davies has come in and done well
And yes, Holgate has also come in and done well
I think all of them should get more chances in the first team, and anyone who doesn't is wrong in my opinion
