Playing in the youth team recently. We have been watching him there. Don't think he is injured. Is he injured or on loan?
He hasn't really been mentioned regards to Saturday, and we're short of defenders at the moment

Pennington is 2 years older, has been at the club a lot longer, and has played more than double the amount of games in the football league. He also did well when given some minutes in the cups earlier this season.Just seems strange that we sign this touted young lad, who seems to be getting good reviews in the youth set up, yet we spend most of January going after another young Right Back (In Byram) and we're pulling players like Pennington back early from loans to try and paper over the cracks for Saturday, when we've got this lad just sitting there and not being used
Again, strange

....perhaps the coaches don't feel he's good enough.
Just to be clear its u21 he's playing at, usually we'll talk about u 18 as Youth.Playing in the youth team recently. We have been watching him there. Don't think he is injured.
That is the position he has played on loan and the position he has been recalled to cover. My point was that this makes sense and shouldn't be viewed as Holgate not being good enough, just rightly behind Pennington in the pecking order. To be fair though, Pennington's a centre-back isn't he? He looks about as natural at right back as Stones does.
Great stuff mate. You are the man!Just to be clear its u21 he's playing at, usually we'll talk about u 18 as Youth.
He played alongside Conolly at Centre back two matches ago , against Chelsea, and they both got good reviews. Holgate may have been the third youngster in contention last Saturday, although more likely to have been Dowell. Anyway, it would seem Connoly has nudged ahead of him as Holgate remained with the U 21s last Monday.
Although he's got some good reviews ,he's made some highly visible mistakes at u 21 level , the most recent being a poorly hit back pass against Middlesborough which gifted them a goal. Youngsters will make mistakes, so shrug and move on but it can affect perception on when they are ready to be exposed to the first team. He's played his first games for England u 20s this season, appeared on the bench for the first team at least once but didn't get on , and has generally made good progress . There is a danger of him being compared with Stones and Galloway re our expectations of him but he's still only 19, plenty of time for him to be developed further.
