Martinez

MoutsGoat, why are you trying to cause a stir in this thread, its about Martinez and what changes he made? nothing to do with Moyes.

Well, in a way it does as any changes Martinez has made are obviously in response to what Moyes did. But Goat is still rocking himself to sleep every night clutching his David Moyes blanket, and he can't see through his tears.
Biggest change I've seen, in addition to cutting down on the long balls -- although I agree the occasional punt upfield can keep defences on their toes -- is the fact Martinez isn't shy about making subs when needed, not hoping against hope that the team he started with can somehow make chicken salad out of chicken ****. Yesterday was a perfect example -- rightfully starting with the same X! that beat Chelsea, but making changes at halftime when it clearly wasn't working. Moyes would have waited until the 60th minute at the earliest.

I am encouraged. HT subs. Ace window. Playing some good stuff, which we also did previously, despite what some say on here.

BUT.

Not 100% confident with this "goalie must always roll/pass the ball to CH. Always" stuff.

We will see.

Digs like this 1 point less than last Season after 5 games. What was the point of that? i'm asking for a discussion on what changes he made

And thats a change from last Season, after 5 games, it wasnt even a dig, as Dave pointed out, we made our best start for Years last Season, so to "only" be 1 point off that and still unbeaten is a positive, considering we have some new players, a new Manager and new training.

And then I said.

"We have a squad full of some utterly outstanding players and some not so good, a Manager who isnt afraid to change things about and Ross the Boss Barks.

I honestly think we can win the League. "

But clearly you only wish to highlight supposed negatives in what I said.

Impossible to judge him on the defence because it's pretty much unchanged from last year.

The full backs seem to reluctant to go forward. Too early to judge if this is a Martinez tactic. I'll be disappointed if it is because I think that's been one of the most entertaining dimensions of the way we play over the past few years.

Martinez likes the fullbacks to get forward even more than Moyes did - I just think we've got to give it time before we're comfortable playing the way he wants us to.

Fair enough, I'm sorry

We will see.

Except its not 100% at all or even close and wont be. He has cleared plenty when under a little pressure.

Why because maybe the truth hurts lets remind you DM = 11 years overpaid Prima Dona, and not one Trophy!

Couldn't agree more. In all honesty Moyes stank the place out by the end of his tenure, and Gibbo reckons it was a major factor in not fulfilling the early promise the team showed.

As I posted earlier, we've won 2 points more than we did from the same 4 games last season, so that's a perfectly valid 'positive' retort that balances out any perceived 'negatives' of Martinez.

Thanks to deadline day and the last two results I'm really enjoying his tenure so far. It's refreshing to see us try new things and a fresh approach whilst also picking up points and not changing anything that doesn't need it. That's exactly what I wanted from his start: exciting signings, good passing football, reasonable changes around the club and points on the board.

It's still very early days, but I'm very confident about this season if we get even an ounce of luck with injuries and refereeing decisions over the season.

What a load of crap, Chelsea and West Ham play hugely different styles of football so explain why he should have played the same team? It is the only thing that dissapointed me about him is that I woud like to see him adjust his teams to who we are playing.

But what can you say about him, you can see he is growing in confidence within matches and his substitutions against Chelsea and West Ham were absolute masterstrokes and arguably won the games for us which is very very refreshing and very gutsy (hope he has the balls to do it when we are not 1-0 down). I also enjoyed the fact that we were attacking until the end of the match.

Keep up the good work Bobby.

I thought Martinez proved himself yesterday after making an error. He stuck to last week's winning team, understandable and defensible. But it was a mistake and it felt like that as we watched from the away end.

We started OK but then slipped into a classic Moyes away performance (I love Moyes, but can see failings, still respect him turning our club around).

Martinez proved himself by making a double sub at half time. I remember Mourinho doing a triples cub at QPR a few seasons ago. Moyes was scared to admit his original XI was wrong and so plugged away with them. RM admitted it was wrong and changed it. Very impressed.
