Jags..class

Player Valuation: £70m
Would like to read a discussion on what changes Martinez had made to the team so far. He surprised a few of us by keeping the same formation, but he did say he doesn't have a favourite formation, he picks formation on the basic of what best for the players. A lot of fans were saying he doesn't understand how to get a team to defend? The main thing he done is give us more options, Distin said they feel more like a squad now. Plus he also brought more fire power in and replaced Gibson who is injury-phone. Martinez seen what we needed and fixed it quickly. I was made up when we signed him, and i'm hoping the fans will stand by him when we hit a bad patch.

From bits ive read the mood through out the club is much better with martinez much more positive. Some intresting comments on twitter by the head chef at goodison saying moyes didnt acknowledge them and everyones happier now with roberto

It's certainly been a fascinating shift in playing style. The passing percentages are what obviously stand out the most, and it underlines that the players we had last year could play a certain way, yet generally didn't. It's quite exciting to see what we can achieve this season.

They play out from the back more. There is virtually no hoofball at all anymore. Everything is played out from the back into the middle of the park.

A bit of the width has gone. Coleman doesn't 'bomb on' as much anymore.

As playing styles go, it's really good, but there are times when they need to pick up the speed a bit more. Ideally also they could switch up a bit more too. Not every 'long ball' is a bad ball.

Once he gets his feet under the table here properly and there's no chance of revolt he'll start experimenting, going three at the back when it's called for in his own mind (and when he has players like Stones in carry it out...I reckon he's of the opinion you cant teach old dogs new tricks, atm).

...yep, an obvious change in approach. At times its all a little slow and its strange and sometimes unnerving watching Distin and Jagielka think they're Beckenbauer, but so far so good.

He invoked Dixie Dean and Dave Hickson in his post-match interview. Legendary stuff. I'm not bashing Moyes, but apart from the people's club statement I never got the impression that Moyes really "got" everton. Martinez seems to "get it"

Come on Dave, you loved it when we didnt win a game untill November.

I thought we played some decent stuff this time last season and deserved the high placing we had - right up until the Fulham away game. Then Moyes put them back on the leash again when a few mistakes were made.

We have a squad full of some utterly outstanding players and some not so good, a Manager who isnt afraid to change things about and Ross the Boss Barks.

I honestly think we can win the League.

1 point less than last Season after 5 games.

2 points more than we got from the 4 corresponding games last season.

Norwich away, lost last season - drew this season.
WBA at home, won last season - drew this season.
Chelsea at home, lost last season - won this season.
West Ham away, won last season - won this season.

Last season from those same games = 6 points.
This season from those same games = 8 points.
