Most of those are throwaways, though. Nothing buys that might work out or mjight not.

When he's spent serious money, he's mostly got it right.

The thing is, an Everton manager has to be resourceful. We dont have a lot of serious money so he needs to be picking up decent players on the cheap.

His transfers at Wigan is what was my biggest concern. Players like Boselli for £6m, Ramis £5m...

Kone - proven to be a horrendous signing
Alcaraz - proven to be a horrendous signing
Robles - not given a chance, unfairly treated after playing well
McCarthy - not as good/effective as some make out
McGeady - proven to be a horrendous signing
Stanek - no idea who he is
Byrne - no idea who he is
Barry - good on loan, awful once he got his contract
Besic - looks decent, fairly low risk signing, could turn out good
Lukaku - good signing, shouldn't lose any money if and when we sell
Galloway - good one for the future
Eto'o - proven to be a horrendous signing

All in all, woeful in the transfer market.

I stopped here.

Bit harsh on McGeady and Kone. Although I'd agree kone's price and injury have made him a poor signing he has had few games, same with McGeady. With the right manager McGeady, Coleman, mirallas, lukaku etc could be quality again. Martinez doesn't have (and never will at Everton unless he stays for 10 years) players capable of playing just barcalona football.

Anyone who can see that lineup and watch his post match interview, and then still have faith... Well they're beyond just being hopeful and straying into delude territory.

I've had enough. I thought after Newcastle he'd finally turned a corner, but then he throws back in the same ineffectual favourites and setup, and we go out in embarrassing fashion. Just do one Roberto. Any half decent manager could do a lot more with these quality players.

Do you want to be a two Bob club who change their manager every 5 minutes like West Brom? No we don't. We are that fickle and we aren't small.

So you stick with the wrong man for the sake of not being like WBA? If he's the wrong man then he's the wrong man and has to go.

Since the 80's it's only probably Moyes that has lasted longer than 3-4 years as manager here and I bet we wish some of them were got rid of sooner.

I'd love it if he succeeded here but I honestly don't think he will. I don't think he has it in him. I see him no different than a Poyet or Bruce type manager.

Or McArthur and McCarthy for next to nothing? He's unproven to me rather than provenly bad. Been hit and miss so far.

Christ, that'll go well for us.

Season by season he'll be judged: last season earned him a 5 year deal; this season will earn him a sit down with the board and a reassessment of where we're going.

The trouble is that people on forums dont do season to season, they do 90 minutes to 90 minutes...as the spectacularly divergent poll results on here for Newcastle and last night's games underline very well.

Cant see any media storm over this or 'Martinez on the brink' narrative.

That's for very good reason: the EL is seen as a joke by most and Everton will be judged in the media on PL results.

Everton will be judged in the media on PL results. Well if they were the jury they would have found him guilty then this season of gross piss poor management Dave. He's had a nightmare season which I know you will agree on because you've called him on it many times. Fair play though that you will stick by him. Regardless if I want him gone or not, barring probably 3 defeats on the spin he will be in the dugout next season. I think then it will only be a matter of time before he's volleyed out of this club mate.

They don't play even remotely the same way.

Rodgers plays a high pressing, direct pacy game that looks to play both on offense and defense in the other team's half.

Martinez doesn't press, and plays a patient build up possession game which results in playing the game in our half.

Pochitino plays a similar game to Rodgers however Rodgers style is far more aggressive as he essentially tries to bully teams.
They both play passing football; martinez' isn't as suited as Rodger's tactics to the league and shows more adaptability.

Understandable, really.

Fans should be emotional, it should hurt when we lose.

I know straight after big disapointing results I get knee jerk in a way that I reconsider once I've calmed down. That's what being a fan is about. Straight after Stoke I could have happily killed martinez let alone just sacked him.

But it's also right that it ain't fans who make the line up manager change calls, cos we are emotional rather than logical.
