Judging on who immediately at the point of his departure required replacing is pointless. It doesnt stop someone being aging and therefore deteriorating whether or not they immediately had to be replaced.
His final squad had in Howard , Hibbert, Distin, Pienaar, Osman, Mucha all of which were over 32 years old. Jags was nearly 31, Baines was 29 at the time too. Heitinga was approaching 30.
His final squad had three players younger than 25 in; Barkley, Oviedo and Big Vic. They will have had less than 50 starts between them.
Less than two years on and the squad is old, inexperienced and requires an overhaul.

You cant deny the team wernt aging. Moyes never built a squad. It was a squad only by name. For the main part it was a mix of around 14 players who played nearly 100% of the time.

Bobby had to get players in to take the burden from the guys such as those mentioned above, all of which became more accustomed to injuries and less reliable to be available on the pitch.

Its no coincidence his most significant signings are McCarthy, Lukaku & Besic; all of which were 23 or younger when purchased. Galloway was added as well for significant funds and Joel Robles was bought as a long term addition.
Barkley , Stones and Garbutt all promoted to first team squad.
Howard, Hibbert and Osman have all been given contract extensions by Martinez. Martinez has brought in his fair share of ageing players as well.
So over a period of 3 years or so you're saying we had to replace about 6 players or so? And??Needing to bring in a couple of younger players each year to replace older players isn't extreme. It's to be expected anywhere.

So you don't think they were everton players when Martinez took over then?

Yeah they were, but they were promoted from the reserves. The first team squad Martinez inherited was threadbare on youth. There was even a thread on here about how old most of it was getting under Moyes

Yes because Osman/Hibbert have been phased out/replaced. They have gone from 1st team core to squad members now. Martinez has had to build the squad up. Your proving my point here.

So the squad was threadbare on youth yet included 2 of the countries top young players at good ages to replace some of the ageing players mentioned.

Nonsense. So after 2 years he's had to phase out Osman (whose played loads over the 2 years) and Hibbert (who wasn't first choice anyway). And yet you're making out he needed to start from scratch.

Distin is the only player that's really aged beyond use and Stones was a ready made replacement for him.

Your wrong. Pienaar, Osman, Hibbert, Baines, Distin pick up injuries left right and centre. They cant be expected to play 40 plus games a year.

So baines is too old as well now?? He was only 28 when Martinez arrived!

Should we be sending players to the glue factory when they reach 27 now? Someone should tell Martinez, he keeps renewing their contracts!
