If we're in this position by October/November of next season, he's gone basically.

10th is NOT a good position for us. It is in relation to what it looked like being a few months back.

Credit to Martinez for the turnaround, but there are still worrying signs and he needs to hit the ground running next season. I wouldn't be surprised if really, really hopes we don't qualify for Europe for his own sake, as we need a "clean" run at the league I think.

How many poor bad starts did we have under Moyes? 10th in October/November, and he's still here...no chance of the sack. Down at the foot of the table in Nov/Dec, then yeah..

Worst finish in ten years with more money than any other manager and a better squad. Some really crap buys, dodgy team selections and bad tactics don't really give me much hope for a improved season next year. A similar season will be terrible in terms of attracting decent players and he will have to go.

Second full season, first season gave us our highest prem points total, bit of faith mate.

I think he's praying for Europe as its a ready made if errant excuse as it has been this season.

I don't think Martinez has earned the credit Moyes had. The pressure that would build if we looked like a mid-table side by November at the latest would be difficult to overcome, as it'd mean a good 15 months of mediocrity with a decent side at his disposal in terms of quality - I think we'd give a new guy the transfer window in January.

Let's hope we'd never find out if this were the case or not.

As long as hes not got us near the relegation zone or in it, he'll be going nowhere for many years

Normally agree with you mate, but Moyes had 11 years, Martinez is into his second full season.

In Moyes' first two seasons, he saved us from relegation with a poor squad when he arrived, then took us to near European qualification, winning Manager of the Year.

Martinez has had one great season after taking on a solid squad, but declined spectacularly this year. The same credit isn't there; indeed, nowhere close.

Martinez cocked up big style pre - season, hopefully he'll have learned from that and we'll see his talents next season. If by Christmas it's more of the same, then he should go.

We have several young AND older players who need to move up to that next level. Unfortunately unless we're very lucky martinez is not the person to do that. He's to inexperienced himself! He may become a top class manager....he may not..who knows...

We need a ancoloti or mouriniho type!!! Someone who knows how to make a winning team and turn players into world class players. Who come's with a team of top class coaches.

Can we afford that? Most probably not....we will always be very everton until as a club we can make that step with a top manager to help the players OR strike it lucky with a unknown which I'm pretty sure martinez is not!

With our budget, we'll never attract the type you are talking about. We will have to hope that a Moyes or a Martinez will develop into that manager.

kenwright is more leniant than other chairmen and i think that's a good thing for us with martinez. he's still so so young for a manager and was his first campaign of juggling european football - he needs to be given time just like young players need to be given time. no excuses for next season though - we can't be this bad again, nor will we be. he's already built a brilliant spine for the next decade.

5th and 10th...some people want him sacked.

Utterly laughable. There is no justification for that conclusion. None.

And, please, can we finally nail this canard that Martinez inherited a fantastic squad and that he's somehow underachieved this season with it. It was the same squad that we all believed in the last season under Moyes needed to be upgraded with younger and better players. He didn't inherit a group that just needed stewarding carefully. He inherited a very mixed group with raw talent coming through and older quality players on their way out and a few like Mirallas and Coleman somewhere in between.

Two seasons in: all told, it's a very acceptable return on his time here so far.

But has he upgraded them with better players? Where's Osman's upgrade? Still looked the best player yesterday. Where's Pienaar's upgrade? Where is Baines' replacement (prob leaving on a free). Where are the replacements for Jags and Distin? (Moyes bought Stones). Most of all where is Howard's replacement?

Alcaraz, Kone, Mcgeady, Barry, Robles (if he won't play him over Howard) Traore Atsu. All poor buys that haven't helped the profile or quality of the squad at all.

He's done well to bring on Stones and Barkley (although the latter needs to kick on) and it's good to see Browning and Galloway being on the cusp. Lukaku is a good player and Besic and McCarthy are good players if a little too four in their passing.

No two ways about it though, 10th won't be good enough for next season.
