Embarrassing how pro Martinez camp celebrating our survival from the drop and acting as if we won the champions league.

How this man managed to drop the expectations of some of the fans is phenomenal
Ta for the condescension...
Crap season, crap results, crap performances.
Need a rethink and some mettle from the coaching team and the players for the upcoming. Need to have a successful window where we clear out some dead wood and bring in players that can contribute in a positive way to the first team. I might be all for giving Martinez the opportunity to prove that this season was a perfect storm where everything that went wrong could have, and that the first season was a better reflection of him and his managerial efforts.
However that doesn't mean what I expect next season has dropped. I expect us to get into Europe and build towards winning a trophy.
Not sure that acknowledging that fans concerns about relegation have now been alleviated is celebrating or acting as though we've won the Champions League.
Think your reading comprehension could do with a hand.

I'd like to see a demographic ( ideally by an @davek pie chart) which shows the age of the voters. I reckon the majority of 'out' voters would be sub-30 and conversely the majority of 'ins' would be post-30's.

I have never wanted Martinez to be gone. The most frustrated was after the Stoke game and was the only time that I even considered it for a second. However my take is as follows. This is the biggest club he has managed, I genuinely believe he has learned a huge lesson this year. In that he has to balance results with his desired style of play. At wigan he could continue to play his style because of the expectation. They would occasionally get good results because if they were playing well they could upend good teams. Wen they were playing not well they would get squashed and it was easy to say well they're Wigan.

I think the big takeaways are as follows.

- He underestimated how much he needed someone with Osman or Pinnears Skill set to play effectively OR it is more likely he thought between Osman and Pinnear, he had cover and instead both were out for long stretches.

- We really did have a bad season of injuries
- He learned the challenge of balancing two competitions and will be better for it.
- He learned that he has to do a more better job of balancing performance with getting to the style of play he wants. (I do think he will get there)

I think our good players need that summer off - and am looking forward to a proper off season and getting in a Playmaker, Center Back, 2 wings and a goalie.

COYB!

I'm 36 and voted out after Stoke away. Just throwing my 2 pence worth in there mate ;) but yeah I reckon it's a good idea, @davek get working on this one that he's recommended when u get a chance, would be good to get a gage of the fan base.

I don't question his football knowledge / tactical ability. I don't have too many qualms about his ability in the transfer market.

My two concerns are whether or not he can man manage and whether he has the mental toughness to cope with the hard times that a club such as ours will experience.

From the little an outsider can tell, I think there are significant doubts. No doubt next season will tell us more.

Your probably right there, most of them have grown up with moyes, and though he had many faults he was very stable during his time here, so when we have a bad season now people start to panic and kneejerk.

Main thing now is how we come back after being knocked down. I have every confidence we'll come back better

Has he?
I would have thought our beloved Chairman and his 'Board' has achieved that brilliantly the last 15 years, and this Manager at least gave us some hope when he came in.

See what I mean, he gave you hope with his phenomenal looks and words, not his actions.

All he achieved last season is doing same as Moyes, finishing 5th, in fact Moyes did better than him one time when we finished 4th, Under Moyes we even were doing better in the cups, under the phenomenal we went out of the domestic cups at early rounds, even in Europe we went out at first attempt once we faced a half decent team, in fact we took a phenomenally embarrassing spanking on our way out

Mate, it was the performances last year not the position in the league that was the main thing.

And on europe, we came across some boss teams and spanked them

No mate. Definitely actions. All the chat was just powderpuff on top of that.
Came in, changed the style of play.
Expected a transition season but we came 5th and were genuine contenders for fourth.
Played with arrogance, dynamism and intent, and went everywhere with the belief that we could get all three points. Something Moyes for all his gifts never achieved.

Europe we got to the exact same stage as Moyes did in his best season in the Europa League.
Pumped the second best team in Germany convincingly in two games.

Panic, yes. Knee jerk, no. There was a string of games we were absolutely tragic and I among others didn't see where the next point was coming from. Newcastle away, Stoke, many more during that run. Nothing knee jerk about it. 3 wins has kept us safe from relegation which is pleasing, and although my faith in him is dwindling he gets till Xmas for me to see if he can turn it round.

Mate people were suggesting the likes of gary neville and mick mccarthy to replace him, there was a whole heap of kneejerk from some people going on

My confidence in him took a real jolt after the spineless performance away at Hull, those post Xmas displays made it look as though he was out of ideas. The difference between success and failure in the Prem is by fine margins and the relief we are feeling after the last three games could very easily have been taken away if for example QPR had a decent finisher on the park and Newcastle hadn't been booking their summer holidays.Maybe he sorted out the problems, maybe the senior players stepping up and performing was the difference.Time will tell.
