Yeah, gotta admit it's getting old now.
I expected the Moyes fans to have the knives out if things don't go well a few games in, but I didn't expect the attempted sabotage before the season even starts.
I say this as probably someone who would be considered by most a "moyes fan" (I am not I support Everton). I do however agree with the above. There seem to be a few threads that are being quite critical. On the whole, we have done quite well this pre season. Anybody who thought Martinez was going to turn us into Barcalona overnight is wrong.
A lot of the criticism on this issue seems to be he is not allegedly speaking in a manner with which the fans want. But I think he is. Much like Moyes before him, there is a limited amount he is able to say publically. Everton will have a PR team who will instruct him on the limits. However, I'd rather we didn't have a manager continually bemoaning our lack of spending power, as it doesn't lead to a positive environment.
While I'd love him to say "no player is for sale" when players have buy out clauses it's a patently stupid thing to say. You end up just looking stupid, like Liverpool are with the Suarez affair. He has already said, that he wants to keep Baines and Fellaini, but he is simply not in the position to say that we will definitely hang onto them. However, he seems calm about losing them, and not in a state of panic, and that is a good thing.
Martinez has done well on the whole so far. He has moved early to sign 4 players, all of them offer us different options to what we have, for about 7/8 million pounds. Even as a big fan of Moyes, he rarely managed to achieve this as efficiently and quickly as Martinez. People going on about our small squad, need to remember we have started seasons playing 16 year olds like Baxter and Rodwell out of necessity before. While Osman and Gibson might not be everyone's cup of tea, we are in nowhere near as bad a position as people make out.
