Player Valuation: £5m
⚠ Caution ⚠ long read, but if you do read, it will arm you with some facts to challenge kopites and other fans about our perceived frivolous spend. If that isn't of interest, skip to another thread now as don't want to waste your time.

OK, let me caveat this thread by saying all sales, purchase and current player values are courtesy of Transfermarkt.co.uk and not all loan fees are accounted for, but essentially this is the as good a picture you will get when it comes to our transfers since 2016.

The conclusion (for those that don't do detail) is that basically it is not as bad as fans of other clubs or the media would have you believe. When you consider what we paid for a player vs what we sold them for or what they are currently worth if they are still at the club, the balance is minus 55million since 2016. I have calculated this balance and named it as profit potential - basically for any given season as: the player actual sale value plus potential market value if they were sold now, vs total spend in the season. This would of course suppose we sold all players we have bought for their current market value (Transfermarkt.co.uk has some a little low I reckon too, so it could be better than -55m balance).

Also when you factor in players who were basically finished by injury (Bolasie, Tosun, Delph, (ahem) Sigurdsson, Gbamin and Gomes, we have been extremely unlucky. I have highlighted players who have suffered serious injuries lasting 90 days or more in the list.

If we literally take Bolasie, Tosun, Gbamin and Sigurdsson, that is around 60million lost value due to injury / lost re-sale value right there - enough to turn our negative spend balancem into a positive balance.

It also doesn't include homegrown player values like Davies, Gordon, Simms, Dobbin, so there is even more equity in our squad right there. We know we have been badly run, but we have also been unlucky to a point. The period when it went wrong for me was between Koeman and Allardyce, but feel free to draw your own conclusions...

I will try to keep this up to date as the windows progress - will be interesting to see how much we sell certain players for vs what we paid...

Weve been reading alot about how much money the club has spent under Moshiri and also how the playing squad has become worse under his ownership.

I've checked through a few sources for each incoming/outgoing and while will never be 'exact' i think we've spent £222.75mil as a net figure.

This works out at £37.125mil net spend per season.

Looking at our squad when Moshiri joined and now...you can see where the money has gone.

I dont think its as bad as it has been claimed.

See my thread.

When I see all those players with (inj) next to them, that's not bad luck. It's clearly a failing of the medical department. Quite a few players had routine injury records before arriving at Everton.

For all the damage he did during his short tenure, Benitez binning off Dan Donachie has my vote. Clearly popular with the players but an absolute failure in getting those same players on the pitch. Granted, I have no idea on the intricacies of elite sports medicine but his department failed and he headed it.

He seems to spend his day's sniping on twitter and posting the occasional enigmatic message, so I don't think he's been snapped up to conduct medical experiments elsewhere.

Interesting to see.... Thanks for taking the time.

What I'd find interesting (if you could be bothered) would be to see the book value of the said player at the time of sale. Eg. Gueye's value without checking was probably 1.5m at the time of sale, so profit of c. 25m. I'd imagine the figures would look different and perhaps better (lookman, vlasic et al )

I’ve said before the idea of having a numerical valuation of players in our team is pointless because a player is worth what someone pays for them.
We could value Richy at 100m but if nobody will pay more than 50m then that’s irrelevant.
By the same token I’m sure Burnley didn’t think they’d get 27m for Chris Wood but it happened because Newcastle wanted him more than the estimated worth and paid the money.

The only relevant points are:
Total paid 558.95m
Total received 155.9m
We are crap

You also missed the exorbitant fees we’ve used to pay off our crap managers and how much our wages went up (James wasn’t really a free ;) )

This really.

I don’t understand the desire to go through every transfer in detail when we all know this. There’s no making it seem better, it’s an embarrassment. We’re top 5 in terms of net spend but have just finished bottom 5 in the league.
