...the fact that Bill loves the club doesn't qualify him to be Chairman. The role requires astute decision making to ensure we are strategically well placed. The role requires balancing the financial needs of the club with the purchasing requirements of the Manager. I'm not a businessman or econonmist but I do feel we are were we are in spite of Bill rather than because of him.

I once wrote a very long piece about the differences between being a very successful theatrical entrepeneur, and successfully running a football club. I'm not going to repeat it here but its somewhere in the archives (or on Kipper !) ..when I have time I might repost it.

Anyone who can listen to that bell Kenwright talk on TV and still think he's capable of running a football club have some serious issues.

In his 14 years in charge what has Kenwright done to improve Everton football club

Massive improvement in footballing personnel, accrued large debt for the club in order to back our previous manager and his squads wage demands.. The result:

If green is european qualification then 95-95 should be green too.

95-96 you mean? did 6th earn Europe or did the cup win get us in there? Not sure, it may be based on league finishes only.
I nicked it shamelessly from the GOT site and they havn't got it highlighted

Football improvements aside he has been rubbish as our chairman though.

BK had nothing to do with the playing side. As you quite rightly show: he gave Smith a new contract and funds to at least spend what he generated and the results were terrible. Smith was dire and it showed in the team performance. Moyes was good and it showed in team performance.

Nothing to do with any chairman input.

Pretty sure we just missed out in 95-96, vague recollection of Parky scoring a late winner against Villa (?) on the last day of the season, only for Arsenal to also win.

Think he means....FA Cup Winners 1995

Is it me, or is this slightly different to your normal view on David Moyes?

94-95 I meant, we had a few rounds in the cup winners cup. Lost to feyenoord I think.

Think its just done on league performance then. Either way the point remains.
Kenwright brought in Moyes and gave him more pennies than the club could afford in an attempt to give us the best football we could reasonably expect. It worked and we improved massively.
He got lucky that Moyes very rarely let him down in the transfer market, but despite the financial barriers Moyes faced, most chairmen would of given him even less to play with if they couldn't put money in themselves and would of been selling to balance the books far earlier than we did.

Moyes was good in relation to what went before, and he gave us a lot of the qualities we were woefully lacking under that clown Smith. That doesn't make him a great Everton manager though.
