It plainly did work. Sam's job was to sort out the defence as we were shipping goals, to thus get points on the board which would stave off relegation fears.

He very clearly did that job, in comparison to what went on before. You even listed a bunch of clean sheets (including vs Chelsea & RS), something which seemed impossible before he came in. The odd game where we conceded a few isn't proof for your argument.

8th position and 10 clean sheets is proof against your argument.
An improvement on being the worst defence we've had in the PL era does not mean he got it to work.
We were still conceding more than one goal per game on average.

As I've said a few times, it's not feasible to replace an entire squad of players in any timeframe. No club ever does this as the logistics & planning are just too stupendous.

You don't understand how club football works, and it hurts as your computer game made it look so easy. But harsh lessons bring the most rewards.
You sir are a buffoon. You're completely ignoring my points, I feel like I'm in an echo chamber talking to myself. FM is a great series you are correct and I used to love it. Only a simpleton would accuse anyone of thinking it's real though wouldn't they, just saying.

It's not possible to replace an entire squad in any timeframe is it not, I'd rethink that to be honest. I'll think you'll find it's happened to every club ever in the entire history of football, unless some of the St Domingo lot are hoping for a game, smh

Where the objective is to replace the entire squad. Of course within 10 years a squad will look very different. But remember how our discussion started:
we need a new squad near enough.

We don't need a new squad, and we can't feasibly aim to replace an entire squad as that's not how football works.

ha! i knew it

Actually, at this point last year, there was a sizeable percentage of the fan base asking themselves "where is Rom's replacement, where are the goals going to come from?"

aye, me too...many of us weren't convinced Rooney would replace those goals, tho' he did alright to be fair to the lad.

Rooney did not do 'alright' replacing Roms goals. Not even nearly alright.

Just took abar 200 penalties.

he scored a few from open play too and made a handful of assists, tailed off once the season got longer. I wasn't a fan of bringing him back and he didn't come close to Rom, but he did alright i think is a fair assessment.
Fair one.

But in my assessment, the guy was Evertons highest ever earner and he couldn't even keep his head down for a year and focus on his footy. It's all about his private life.

10 goals and 2 assists is quite honestly pathetic when abar 7 of them were penalties, and one was 'open play' rebound from missing a penalty. He misses a lot of penalties.

Thanks for THAT goal though. That was good.

Hyperbolic nonsense. Only this time last year we thought we had the strongest squad in a decade and had high hopes for a very good season.

The key is what the manager does with what he's got.

Yep. Either greatest squad ever or worst squad ever. Truth is we have a strong enough squad to finish midtable, prossibly even 7th.
We are miles off finishing top 6th.

Honestly I'd be happy with 11th if our games are entertaining, our players try their hearts out, we beat the RS and we have an exciting cup run.

If Marco can make us enjoy watching Everton again I'll forgive him if he doesn't quite manage top 10.

I just want Everton to finish up the table as high as possible. M finger the entertainers brand.
