Every team gets the better of us in the air.

No they don't. Today we let one of the world's best midfielder whip 5 world class crosses into the box. That was the fault of McGeady and Hibbo sitting too deep. It's hard to deal with a cross of that quality, if you can get it clear or put the attackers off, you've done the job.

Rom is lazy, if he spent more time charging the ball down than flapping his arms around requesting team mates to do something, he might be decent and contribute. Martinez putting Naismith up top after the break says it all really, but then with the amount of ground Naismith covers including helping out in defence we lost that. When do you flick a ball on...when someone is behind you, or in Roms case...when there isnt.

People were saying they didn't get the better of our defence, which they did, twice.

I said they didn't rip us part, which they didn't. The first goal was a lucky deflection out to Mata, and Di Maria's finish was inch perfect. The 2nd we were out of position due to Howard's error, plus it was a mishit Di Maria shot.

We cut their defence in half 3 times. The penalty, Osmans' shot, and the goal.

The one thing we did wrong in the second half was not do it more often!

Blimey. Some context.

We have played Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea & Arsenal. We have had our 4 best players injured, sometimes all at once. We are scoring goals, not for fun, but reliably. And pretty much every goal we have conceded has been either a poor individual error, or the sort of bad luck that happens once or twice a season. Like Utds second today.

Today, we didnt look great, admittedly, but Baines missed his first penalty. Ever. And even Schmichael said that De Gea won the points for Utd with, to quote, "3 extraordinary saves".

We looked fitter than Utd, after spending most of last week in an aeroplane, sit on top of what was proclaimed as the toughest group in the EL, and have been playing a right back who hasnt started a game for 2 years. And who hasnt let us down, despite the predictions of many.

Still frustrating mind.

The problem is that in each of the games you have mentioned we have created problems for ourselves, we haven't been beaten by sublime moments of football but rather sloppy play that's been punished. It's nothing to do with bad luck when it's happened as often as it has to us already this season. We set up to play possession football built on a solid back four, so far the back four has been all over the shop and we are giving the ball away on a regular basis when we enter the opponents half of the pitch.

No doubt things will improve when Barkley and Coleman return but on the other hand I'm not sure spunking the entire budget on Lukaku when we need depth in other positions was the best idea.

Based on Utd and Liverpools performances against us, we have nothing to worry about, just look after ourselves and after 38 games the truth will appear,

Thing is though, we don't play them for all 38 games. We've had 8 and there's a lot of room for improvement. People keep saying it's early days, but we're actually almost 25% of the way through the season.

So, essentially, they were lucky to score, & we should win?

I wouldnt go that far, but I would say their goals were lucky. Insofar that the first was our cock up, and the second was a mis placed shot. Cracking finishes though.

Poor result today

We're just not as slick as we are when we're at our best and silly mistakes keep on costing us. Confidence is low and we're missing key players who gave us a bit of spark and pace last season, but in spells in the second half, their were glimpses of what we might get to see when it starts to come together again.

We need a few good results to get the confidence levels back up. The fixture list is a bit kinder to us over the next couple of months so, hopefully before we go to the Etihad, things will seem a bit brighter.

Bloody awful trip back home. My missus and her old man are STH's at Old Trafford. 45 minutes in a car with them trying not to gloat wasn't any fun.

Premier League is a busted flush nowadays, all about Europa League
I seriously think that Roberto is prioritising the Europa League. This makes sense, as we have no chance of winning the league, very little chance of qualifying for Europe on league position - and we always freeze at the crucial moment in the FA Cup.
Should make for an interesting ride this season.

Like has been said the difference between say 5th and 12th is something like £9 mil, for a club like ours that's a massive sum of money to miss out on.

I'm sure you like many others advocating this would be the first to complain if martinez has only coppers to spend in the summer window or a top player "tells bill" He wants to leave. The league is very important to us

Most fans unlike Arsenal fans would want a cup to win, Id be over the moon with a EL (which get you CL), than finish 5th.
I think the lowest we will finish is 7th this season.

Realistically the highest we can finish is 4th and lowest 7th. So its not a great amount of money. EL will give us other positives also, better co-efficient, experience in europe, enhance the profile, abit of money from latter stages not to forget the gate receipts.
