Man City Banned From Europe

The NFL in the US operates a draft pick system which see's the club finishing bottom getting the first pick of the best new talent. Not sure if that could ever happen here, but at least it offers a chance at levelling the playing field.
Never work, the only way to level the playing field is saying for example that you can only spend 80 million in the summer, 40 million in the winter and 100 million per season on wages, it would quickly bring down transfer fees and the daft wages players are getting. Capping the spending to a maximum is the only fair way of doing it.

It's also worth noting the players aren't centrally owned.

US sport is a good example though, of where legislation is aimed at tackling inequality, not entrenching it.

I mean our perspective, it looks as if City are being charged, not for they they did, but for being dishonest about it.

So anyone scaremongering about our sponsorship deals should probably stop, as it's not the deals that are the problem, but providing misinformation. I don't think there is any suggestions we haven't been up front in our reporting of our spend.

From the outside it looks early on, City were very blaise and left some potential loopholes open. I don't think we've made that mistake.

All too predictable. City are the arriviste interlopers to the established 'top' sides. They look at them in envy. This would never happen to a liverpool or Man U. We need to tread cautiously the next few years.

I agree that the system is flawed, Salary cap wouldn't work imo, The big clubs will always get the better player if a club below them couldn't offer a higher salary

It's a really hard situation to manage, On one hand you want new teams competing and challenging the European giants, But on the other hand the way City have spent since the takeover has ruined football in the country, No side can compete with them in the transfer market, If this ban isn't upheld can you imagine what they will spend again in the summer

Not sure if City have ruined football. Remember when it was the ‘top 4’? Only one team ever breached that (not that anyone remembers who they were and UEFA quickly dealt with them anyway) and for years we had Liverpool or Arsenal limping into 4th even after a bad season and being able to buy players knowing that CL football was guaranteed.

City broke all that up and teams that have found themselves outside of the top 4 have struggled to get back in. Arsenal and United are an utter mess and despite the money they have we could now genuinely challenge them. Leicester have won a title and look like getting CL football again, Spurs have been in the top 4.

I’ll admit it’s annoyingly seeing City and Liverpool able to just dominate the league through spending eye watering amounts that others cannot match but there’s a genuine chance for Everton to move ahead of some clubs that 15 years ago we had absolutely no chance of doing so.

Teams with good managers have a realistic chance of getting into the top 4 and teams without them are finding themselves stranded outside of it. That wasn’t the case for the old top 4.

Agree on the US being a good example, I like the luxury tax idea in basketball, it could work in football too, if you have an owner happy to spend more than the cap they have to pay 70% of the amount over the cap to the FA who then can hand it out to grass roots.

We’re one of the most cautious clubs in the league. I doubt we’ve committed a whole load of financial impropriety.

The CAS is independent and not a kangaroo court. Maybe it stands up, but it will be a lot harder, and if it doesn't, the recriminations will be wide.

I've posted up about my feelings on the appeal. The smart move of UEFA is to let them play while it's appealed.

In all honesty, we are getting to a point whereby if a rebel league was created let them go. The CL becomes less prestigious each year. Strip each title they've ever won via UEFA as a result and state they won't ever be allowed back. Watch the unity of the 14 begin to get very nervous.
I saw your Tweet on City's wage bill, about it being lower than the United Chelsea Arsenal RS.

You do know that City has over 850 employed , and in 2015 they created another company house (you can actually google it and see that they have TWO company houses on the company house website), something no other club does in the PL or in Europe to divert 450 people wages to, an act that is to bring the wages down below what were over 75% of turnover to 52%.

Are you also aware that City again, what no other club does or did, actually diverted the players Image rights to a offshore tax haven company (Fordham Sports Image Rights) to again keep off the wage bill and away from UEFA and HMRC scrutineers and what has been leaked is UAE created that company and paid themselves back to cover the losses, again another thing hidden from UEFA.

Not only are they getting punished by Uefa, the PL is also going to punish them as well with a fine and points deduction as PL FFP is in line with UEFA punishments.

On CAS, they have said they will allow City to appeal, and they also said if their is an appeal process then all documents that journalists and the public haven't seen that is more damaging than the leaks will be released (UAE won't want anything more disclosed that destroys their image in the world), like i alluded to earlier, the statement City released last night never denied the accusations, they know they are guilty and haven't got a leg to stand on that is why they never gave any assistance to UEFA in the investigation lol which UEFA FFP chamber said in their statement.

Like AC Milan, they are better just taking the punishment and not appealling, Uefa holds the cards and the G14 clubs hold the power with the threat of a breakaway super league before the next shakeup of the CL goes ahead in 3 seasons time.

Interesting that i did read on Twitter a few times, the last meeting about the super league amongst the big hitters, Chelsea PSG and City were not invited to the talks.

There's a real opportunity for us.

The reality is, a lot of the issues at the other top teams are systemic as well. I don't believe Manchester United have reached rock bottom yet. There is a legitimate question of how far they can fall/ We very early went down in the 90's.

Arsenal will probably stabilise under Arteta but it's a long way back and a lot of patience will be needed. Will they show it? Similar with Chelsea. However neither are going back to being European super powers in the next 18 months.

Spurs will probably do better next season, and then really fall away post Mourinho as his cycle continues. Even in their positive Mourinho bounce, they are no better than where we are currently. I think kane is close to being finished. I think it's true of a few of their players actually.

The flip top this positive is a lot of teams below us are getting better. Leicester and Wolves particularly, but also Southampton. I also think Brighton might get better under Potter.

So it's a mixed picture, but there's a great chance for us, if we can keep our heads to get close to the top 2. We then have to hope, that the 5th and 6th oldest team in the league begin to fall away (as Spurs have before them with similar ages) and their replacements are not as good. Not certain by any means, but it remains possible. Both City and Liverpool will need to re-build their teams over the next couple of seasons.

No quite the opposite. And of all the things I'd say about Moshiri, he knows regulations and accounts very well. We will be fine and the scaremongering should stop.

It looks as if City paid no credence t the regulations early on, and it's now heavily contested as to whether they broke the rules (it could well be overturned). As long as you make some minimal nod to the rules you are ok, we are way beyond that.

Having read a lot in the papers today about this, I genuinely believe this will put City back 20 years plus.
Apparently, Guardiola knew all about the dodgy stuff so he'll be on his way soon along with all of their 'superstars' I dare say.
Dress it up how you want to but they've obviously been cheating the system for years.
I bet they're laughing their little red socks off across the park and, in this case, rightly so.

I am aware of this. At present though there is a lot of speculation about the legality of this, and the value of it. I will wait until this is tested in an impartial court before making any value judgements on this. The rest is just speculation.

City are appealing. They must feel pretty confident they can win, if they are prepared to do that, knowing as you say the documents that are private will be made public.

I'll be honest, I really don't see what the fuss is about. It seems to amount to, they have received and spent money. I don't know why this is being framed as such a bad thing.

As for the G14, there will be splits. But if City and Chelsea remain in the PL, all the better. The European super league will be flop and I'd be delighted to see Liverpool partake in it, have all their titles taken off them as a result and never be allowed back. I genuinely hope it goes ahead. They'd realise very quickly they were to the reason football is so popular.

I doubt it will set them back 20 years. They were in division 3, probably turning over 5 million then. They have a great infrastructure now.
