Lukaku

This is why I can't understand all the talk of us "breaking the bank" to buy him in the Summer.Trapping or chesting down the ball and laying off a short pass is the sort of thing you learn in the school playground.I know he's only 19 but if he hasn't mastered it by now, will he ever? And given the way we are set up it's pretty important

I don't know where you guys come up with this stuff. You're miles off the mark. It is glaringly obvious that these traits are much less relevant now under Martinez compared to our old playing style under Moyes. We don't play hoof ball anymore which is why a target center forward is much less relevant to us. We keep the ball on the deck most the time now. There is a reason why Fellaini was so successful here under Moyes. He was fantastic at receiving long balls in deep and distributing them to teammates. It's just not as crucial now.

Finally, to the countless posters saying Lukaku will move for £15m. You really know nothing.. I mean NOTHING about transfer market values. Honestly, you are delusional! Chelsea paid £17m for him as a teenager! You think they are going to sell him at a LOSS now? Laughable.

If he can score 25 goals a season, then yes (but needs to work harder for the team - eg hold up the ball). Did we miss him against Villa? He has been very poor for a while. Hopefully he will have a rest now with his injury, so should come back fresh. I would like him to be on the bench at times and come and make a difference (as he does not do that well when he starts a game).

His first game back should be West Ham at home on 1st March.

Totally agree. Lukaku will be 20 at a bare minimum, probably somewhere between 20-30.

We got 27 for Fellaini for crying out loud.

Lukaku is going to move by the sound of Mourinho. He just said one or two will leave in the summer because they think moving elsewhere to play first team football is better than staying put. Chelsea had paid £12m (which was an inflated Chelski/Citch price) initially for Lukaku not £17m at the time. It looks like he will score around 15 goals per season so paying £15m-17m for Lukaku is realistic and fair.

I honestly think Martinez made a big mistake getting rid of Anichebe, seems like his perfect centre forward; I suppose in hindsight he had probably banked on Kone not being injured for over 90% of the entire campaign.

The ESPN Press Pass pundits about Chelsea and it's iffy Strikers last week and discussed new ones who they might be after.

It was agreed that E'eto would be off and that Torres and Ba hadn't done the job.

They talked about people like Cavani and Falcao but Lakuku's name was never mentioned.

And we will be in a bidding war against domestic & European rivals. Juventas were supposedly "monitoring" him over this season with a view to a bid in the summer.
£25m might get him in ... if RM wants him of course

I think RM is just concentrating on managing the present squad through the arduous (and exciting) campaign still ahead. Scouting missions aside, the summer window is something to be focussed on in summer

I think the advantage we would have is having him here this season already. He looks settled and happy. Obviously if someone like Juve came in and offered him champions league football and a wage far in excess of ours then he would probably jump at it.

Time will tell if that happens.

Ignoring his price for the moment, wouldnt it be good to have Stones/Barkley/Lukaku as our spine + know that he would deliver 1/2 goals to games for us.

One of the worst posts I've ever seen! Lukaku cost Chelsea 12M ACTUALLY!!! With a further 5M in add-ons, now given he's barely been on the field for them I'd say its safe to say he's most likey not triggered that extra 5M yet. Chelsea with all their riches are clearly trying to keep an eye on FFP. Now come summer if they want a falcao or cavanni etc... They will have to bring some cash in. To say Chelsea will demand and GET 20M+ is delusional.

As for the long/hoof ball you spout, just because we don't play that way as standard, there's certainly times when balls come into lukaku at above waist height and he needs to be able to control it and lay it off. Currently he is weak at doing that. The same as if the ball is popped around the floor and into his feet he needs to be able to control it and lay it off, which again currently he is not the best at!

His valuation is a tricky one, although seeing De Bruyne go for a profit is an indication Chelsea won't be soft. Despite his poor control at times he's probably the best u21 striker in the league (probably the best u23, maybe?), which counts for something. Anything circa £20m would be a very good price and it would be remiss of us to dither.
