Lukaku

...I've been thinking about the Lukaku situation and come up with a far fetched scenario. I'm not for one moment saying this is true but perhaps it answers a few of the imponderables.
The imponderables are subject to regular discussion on these pages. Why would Chelsea release one of their best striking options on a loan deal and why was Mourinho apparently so keen on him coming to us. So here's a theory. Mourinho is supposed to be a very shrewd cookie. The season was underway when the Lukaku deal was done and at that stage Barklay had made a national impact. When Mick Doherty left his scouting position at Everton and moved to Chelsea he apparently told them to make Barklay their no1 priority. What if the Lukaku move is all part of a Mourinho master plan, using him as bait in a Barklay transfer. Daft I know, but its a theory.

Interesting idea, but one that has been brought up before with the Mancs. Many thought that us getting Man Utd players on the cheap was part of a deal for us to sell Fellaini, Baines, Rodwell, Barkley, Lescott, etc. on the cheap. Their fans were saying we should sell to them purely out of gratitude. It didn't happen, the only player we sold them was Fellaini and we got above the market value for him.
There is no way I can see us selling our best long term prospects for the sake of a one-season loan.

It really all depends on what Jose thinks of Lukaku. Is he really trying to get him experience or does he want him out of the club because he doesn't rate him.

I think Sir Robben makes a lot of sense in his contribution, and I would agree with him if Chelsea still had a player like Drogba at the club...but they don't.
Their strikers are the most motley crew seen at Chelsea in a decade. Torres whose confidence has deserted him completely for over two seasons ,Ba who seems to have faaen off the radar totally and unfairly so and finally Eto'o who was brought in at the last minute because they couldn't sign Rooney.
I think Lukaku would get a game most weeks instead of those.
I think Rooney will leave Utd next summer and wants to go to Chelsea and if he does I wouldn't be surprised to see Mourinho sell Lukaku.

Ironically we may not be able to afford him because he has proven to be a success with us.

Actually, I think we colud be in a good position in the end of the seaosn. The only club who could afford to buy Rooney from Man Utd over that no sales to rival ManU policy are Chelsea. Man City won't want him and he will surely rather go to us than to Arsenal/Spurs/RS. I believe Rooney won't renew his contract in ManU and he won't want to go outside of Britain, so Man Utd will want to sell him next summer as he will have only 1 year left on his contract. So I believe it could be us or Chelsea. If Chelsea get Rooney/Benteke/anyone else, we could get Lukaku then. If they won't we can still get Rooney next summer, I believe. Win-win situation for us, hopefully.

Interesting...so...simple question......If either were possible.....would you like to start next season with Rooney or Lukaku?

Jesus

Have we just been bought out or something

If the RS were on RAWK asking "Who would you want lad that Rooney or Lukaku" we would be laughing our heads off

Probably Lukaku, as I think Rooney and Barkley are too similar to play as our two main central offensive players and Rooney as a main striker. In other words, Rooney is probably more than a striker - an attacking midfielder, he is too similar to Barkley. And I really don't know if it would be a good system where we would would play them in a system like this: Barry - McCarthy; Mirallas - Barkley - Pienaar; Rooney ... Or do you think Wazza, Ross and Kev could play as our three attacking midfielders with a forward like Kone, Jelavic or a new striker in front of them, could it work well?

If Lukaku scores as many as we all think he will, it'll be hard to sign him.

Chelsea, including add ons, paid 17 million for him (I think). So really you'd have to start bidding at 20 mil, and realistically they would only let him go for 25-30 mil at the least.

I hate to be a pessimist but it's hard to see us acquiring such funds. The club claims that the McCarthy deal was going to go ahead even without the Fellaini sale, I just find that hard to believe personally. If they're telling the truth we have the slightest of hopes.

But I suppose the main question is, would Lukaku like to stay. We'll have to wait and see.

We are not keeping Lukaku ffs

He has said he want's to move to a bigger club

Deal with it

that's what the paper says,
every paper says something else
in one off his intervieuws he said anything can happen in football,i just have to see at the end off the season
so if we could qualifie for europe, why wouldn't be there a opportunity that he would like to stay
