Lukaku

Lads, lets be honest, he is not what we need upfront. I have no doubt that he would bang goals in if he played for a team that didn't base their game on possession, but the fact is he is not a possession based striker, he is a counter attacking striker.

If we are to play the possession game then we need a specific breed of striker in my opinion, that striker needs to have...

*Exceptional technique and finishing
*Good at linking play
*Good at holding the ball up
*Good at dragging defenders around

At the moment, Lukaku is none of the above. Not only that but he is not even using his physical presence to reek havoc, and he is pretty bad in the air.

We need someone else, and I agree with the Berbatov shouts even if it is for the remainder of the season, yes his workrate is crap but he wont need to do much running if we always have the ball.

Can't help but think what we'll miss most about Lukaku is the fear and reputation he brings. Fans from other clubs still go into games talking about how he's a massive threat - even though he's been pretty dire (on the whole) since the first derby, and I wouldn't be surprised if opposition defenders feel the same. Leads to them following him too much while other players pop up in those open spaces and get the goals (eg. Mirallas at WBA). Not got quite the same fear factor for Toure and Skrtel with Naismith backing into them is there?

I think Negredo would of been the perfect striker for us, The lads got absolutely everything. Shame Bill only offered Sevilla measly money over a period only comparable to that of a mortgage

I was going to say Berbatov and then you did. I know a lot on GOT don't rate him, but I do.

I would like to hear some suggestions for a possession striker besides Berbatov? anyone.

He has everything we need.

Great finishing
Great passing
Great hold-up play
Great heading
Great experience and (know-how)

Most of all great touch and technique..

He doesn't have the workrate or pace but is that needed in a team what builds up slow and always seems to have the ball.

Berbatov would be an ideal short term solution, providing the fee was sensible.

Besides him, there's not a great deal of quality out there with PL experience that would be available at such short notice

Who?

Bare in mind we're talking long term value here. I can't think of ANY other player valued around £20m with the potential he has and the resale/profit capability.

And I'm criticising him tonight!

Rodriguez 8m, benteke 8m, remy 9m, sturridge 13m, adebayor 6m.

I get that these players are probably worth a lot more now, but I don't see what Lukaku has on any of these that would justify 20m. I think we'd be better off spending 7-10m on 2-3 strikers and hope we find someone with class.

Fair enough, can't argue with Rodriguez and Remy anyway, think they'd cost a bit more than that but on current form they're certainly the better bet.

I would have none of that list as they are all counter attacking players, obviously I know you was not advertising them for us but I'm just trying to get my point across, especially to the people who have suggested Remy in the past.

Not concerned over ranking who's been the worst striker of the last 10 years, I'm more concerned with why every single striker goes through the same motions for us? What is the deal?

I asked the same question a few pages back and the answer came back that we lack a true ACM a la Rooney, Oscar,Hazard, Coutino Ozil, Carzola etc. People who play the ball in to the striker. We don't possess that player and the striker just gets more and more isolated until he loses interest and does a Jelavic/Lukaku and turns to cack.

Why don't we try not playing with a striker if they turn to crap. Spain won a world cup playing a CAM upfront (Fabregas). Would be interesting seeing how Mirallas went playing off Barkley.

I just can't agree with you, the whole team performances haven't been as good for over a month and half, whether that's down to injuries, fatigue etc, so to single out Lukaku when I think he's trying really bloody hard, when he's often so isolated in games is unfair.

Agree with you but I emboldened the scary part of your post because frankly...

...you could take just about every Everton striker of the past ten years and put their name in place of Lukaku's and it would be correct.
