Lukaku OR Jelavic?

Honestly.

90% of the game is mental...defenders don't sh*t themselves at the prospect of handling Jelavic. Rom's a match-long threat even if he's not scoring. At a stretch I could see playing Jela off and behind Lukaku but not up on his own, not with the way we tend to d*ck around with the ball in the opp half which allows defenders to crowd out even more. I can see him creating goals with the way we play, just not scoring them.

His last assists haven't really been intended. The pass to Oviedo on Old Trafford was an awkward attempt of a shot. Against Fulham he got hit by a rebound which ended up nicely for Barry to head in an inch from the goal-line. Other than that, what has he provided? He wins no headers at the moment. His feet doesn't seem to want to hit the ball to often.

The lad needs a rest. Jelavic actually got more close to score a goal against Sunderland than Romelu.

Managers seem to tell their defenders to mark Lukaku constantly because they know he could be trouble, I'll give you that.

It's 3 days since our last game and maybe Lukaku doesn't need a rest but he needs to feel that he's not guaranteed the striker slot every game. To start on the bench might give him that bit more determination when he comes on and may also work that bit harder. He's still a young kid who needs to see the game from the bench sometimes so he knows how to approach it when brought on and how to change it.
If you remember when he made his debut against West Ham he was a second half substitute and made a massive impact on the game. He looked dangerous when on the ball and coming forward.

So, here's what I say. Start Jelavic, give him game time and chance to show what he can do. We proved we can beat Chelsea without Lukaku so give Jelavic a start and bring on Rom.

For all the instances you mention, At Old Trafford Jelavic doesn't even get a shot off, against Fulham he has zero presence and doesn't block oxygen. He offers absolutely zero upfront with Tim Cahill doing his running for him. Cahill used to do all the channels, flanks for him so he could concentrate on staying in the box. Lukaku needs someone else to do that for him, however playing Osman behind him isn't going to allow for that.

As much as I don't particulary think Naismith is good enough, playing him off either striker would get the best out of both. Jelavic didn't do running at Rangers as Naismith did it, leaving him to stay central. Lukaku needs the same person, IMO.

It's easy to make theories, but we never tested Jelavic on OT or against Fulham, and then we can't judge him. If he played one half, or even one minute, we could judge his performance.

Don't get me wrong, I love big Romelu and I'm sure he will score 15+ goals for us. But for the moment he needs a rest, and should be mentioned he's doing something wrong at the moment. I just do not get the feeling he does.

I can't see jelavic scoring one or two goals affecting his price too much.. People out there know he scored a bucket load for us then has been gash since.

Playing him say over vellios (if lukaku does in fact need a break) will do everton no good what so ever.
