Lukaku OR Jelavic?

Seeing as Jela is on his bike, i'd go with
Joel
Coleman Distin Jagielka Oviedo
Mirallas McCarthy Barkley Pienaar
Vellios Lukaku

That's me being serious too. If you don't wanna play that, i'd stick Baines in for Vellios, and stick him on the wing, oviedo doesn't deserve to be moved. Vellios has something to prove, let him prove it.

Jelavic. He came on and did well against Sunderland, and he should be rewarded for it. I don't want a situation where certain players play regardless of form, and Lukaku is out of form for me.

If he stinks the place out for an hour against Southampton then we have Lukaku on the bench ready to go.

He came on and did about seven overhead kicks, none of which made contact with the ball.

Hence the question- which is the stronger team? One with Lukaku, or one with Jelavic.

Ordinarily, it's Lukaku, but circumstance as above could shine a different light on this one.

Lukaku barely played 90 minutes anywhere before coming to us for good reason.

He played 90 minutes 14 times last season...

Even if Lukaku is tired, he's still a better option than Jelavic. Not even a debate to be had on this one imo.

Hmm Romelu has gone 5 games without a goal. Do we let him play his way through it or is it better to rotate? Moyes always chose the first option and allowed players like Saha to go for months without a goal. I don't think it helps them. It has to be easier for him to come on with fresh legs once the defenders have already played for an hour than to work the defenders the whole game.

Last season he scored 11 when he started and 6 when he came on including a hat-trick against United. Only 4 of his 17 goals came in the first half of games, strangely enough, and one of those was a penalty. Maybe he finds more space when games get stretched or he receives more crosses if West Brom were chasing the game?

It sounds like there is no imperative to sell Jelavic other than the fact that we can't guarantee him game time in the lead up to the World Cup. If we play him and he scores a couple of important goals it will increase his value but would we then want to sell him?

It's tricky but, ideally, both Lukaku and Jelavic would be firing and pushing each other. Nikica can't find any form if we don't play him. So, why not give him a start?

Good post this.

Yeah and he scored a bagload the season before that.

It's now December 2013, let's judge him based on his performances now. He showed energy and desire when he came off the bench, unlucky not to score and held the ball up. The debate is to be had.

I'd rather throw the corner flag on than give that waste of a jersey Jelavic another second on the pitch.

Just sell this abomination asap.
